Probably a variety of reasons, methinks. The bad girl attraction is probably high on the list. Someone asked the same question of women and male inmates recently. One responder suggested commitment issues. If they’re corresponding with lifers, that actually makes sense. There are probably some of the same dudes who try to “rescue” prostitutes and runaways. They feel compelled to save women, often at their own expense. There’s almost certainly a group of fellas who are just so desperately lonely and think that felons’ options are limited enough that they might actually lower their standards to a “decent” guy.


Personally, i don’t trust women who have never even been arrested. No effing way i’m giving career criminals a way in! Ell oh ell!

I've never considered that, but I guess it would most likely be loneliness and the knowledge that a woman in prison, with not much else to do, would respond.

1. The ladies are a captive audience witha lot of time to respond, especially if the guy might be willing to put money on the books.
2. The ladies are appreciative that someone remembers them, as many are even ignored by family.
3. On the darker side, some guys are so desperate that they will even seek after a 25 to lifer.
