Why is ghosting such an overused word?

it cannot be applied to any situation, like when 2 people just met each other and r hanging out etc. it is only when it is assumed we are in a relationship and then he dissapears

Because it is an accusation, so the accuser plays "victim " based on expectations instead of based on "mutual agreement". So i agree "cannot be applied to just any situation" only after a commitment and a face to face meeting. You @Malwi93 are also right about narcissist word, used to feel holier than the narcissist! Regardless of accuracy, same for "phobias and hater" etc.

I’ve BEEN saying just that for a while now.


Ghosting used to imply you wake up in the morning and your partner left and took their stuff while you slept without saying a word


It implied that a promise had been broken


But if you started texting a stranger you met at a bar or on a dating app and they stopped answering that’s just them changing their mind without having made any promises.
It’s not ghosting because nothing was owed

I guess it's the same as any fairly popular word.. It's just a more simple and convenient way to convey your like or dislike of something similar enough to it..
