My boyfriend is offended my male neighbor offered to mow my lawn. why?

My boyfriend of a year doesn’t live with me. I own my home , I’m a single mom and my lawn was getting a little crazy.

My male neighbor offered to mow my lawn. I declined and i mowed it myself.

My boyfriend is offended that he offered. Guys, whats this about?

It's a territorial thing.

Taking care of your girlfriend/wife is a man's responsibility, and we tend to take it pretty seriously. This includes doing stuff like mowing the lawn, taking care of the cars, hanging shelves, etc. You know, the "guy stuff."

So, for another man to offer to do that for you is, in a way, encroaching on his territory. It's seen as inappropriate, because another man shouldn't be doing a "boyfriend job" for you.

It sounds kind of archaic, and maybe a little "cave man" but that's just how our brains are wired. It's possible your neighbor was just offering to be nice, but a lot of guys will only do that for women they like, so it's not unreasonable for your boyfriend to feel threatened.

It really depends on how serious you two are, but if he's getting upset about it, then it does sound like he's pretty serious about your relationship.

Hopefully it will make him put in a little more effort, yeah.
