So glad to read that most of you just would not do that to a person on a holiday at all (unless there was something major like cheating going on). Unfortunately, in reality I hear about folks who do this all the time... and if it's not a "hey, it's not you, it's me" type of deal it's just a general ghosting on Valentine's Day followed by the "hey, it's not you, it's me" etc. etc. (Apparently NOT seeing one another on V-Day is a significant hint that things are about to fall apart.)

I have mixed feelings about this, but I think breaking up with them before any big occasion is actually more kind at the end of the day because it's one less memory of that person. In the future they can think "I spent that Valentines day alone" rather than think about a good Valentines with their ex.

No i think that is so rude. But you always hear about it right before Valentine's day and right before Christmas I say its because the guys are cheap.

And then you hear about the guy trying to get back with the girls , the girl , I would say , no way

Only if it’s absolutely necessary.

Timing is secondary to honesty and boundaries.

If the relationship isn’t right or someone isn’t being treated with respect, waiting just because of a date only delays the inevitable and can make things more complicated.

I would really try my best not to. I would only dump them then if they cheated on me or did something else truly horrible.

@Cute_User513 @WhitneySnow I've seen A LOT of guys ghost/dump a gal the weekend before valentines day (or the week of). I agree that cheating is a big deal and it's important to cut things off immediately in those instances, but of there's no critical reason to break up with them... you'd really skip out early? What for? Or at least go out as friends.

Not unless I felt like there was really no other good choice. It also depends on how the person I'm dating functions.

Example A: If I/we know it's not going to work out, but she's nice and believes every relationship happens for a reason, I'll absolutely do my best to give her a great Valentine's Day before parting ways.

Example B: If I/we know it's not going to work out and she adheres to the idea of "any man I date who isn't my husband is in his way," I'll break up with her before Valentine's Day so I'm not wasting her time.

IF you're no longer interested in this person, yes. I'd dump them before Christmas, New Year's, Thanksgiving, Valentine's.

There is no excuse to hold onto someone you're done with because it's some erstwhile holiday coming. Why waste your money on someone you no longer want, or pretend?
