Women of GaG: What makes you hot for an older man?

Against the advice of everyone I have spoken to with actual experience, I have taken the plunge and signed up to some dating sites.

Suppose a reasonably presentable, intelligent, single man in his late 40s is interested in dating a woman in her 20s or 30s.

What actually works for you? What makes an older man appealing, and what immediately puts you off? How should he signal interest without coming across as a creep? How do I not give the 'you could be my dad' ick?

Honest experience or merciless ridicule equally welcome, ideally both in equal measure.

Late 40s is probably older then what I'd seriously consider for dating, wouldn't put the age slider past a 20 year gap if I'm looking for anything serious. But if we ignore that, generally what I like in older men is the ability to hold a proper conversation. I kind of like when a man makes me feel a bit stupid in comparison or says stuff that gets me thinking. I love a mature, intelligent man, someone who knows what they want, someone who can be funny without being a goofy clown or idiot.

But personal attraction is still important and I have an easier time finding someone who fits my taste who's in their late 30s than late 40s.

A big no go is when older men treat me like I'm a kid. I really hate it. When someone thinks that they automatically know better than me just because they're older or that they're the boss because of it, it's a major turn off and in my opinion shows a lack of intelligence, the opposite of what I'm looking for in an older man.

Physical attraction is so important. It helps if he looks good for his age and keeps in shape.

​Personality wise, if you're chill and can keep up with my stuff or at least be willing to try to be open about certain things. I'm always interested in learning new things, and I like that generally most older men know what they want out of life. I like the honesty and directness.

Financial security, emotional stability, sexual experience are just a few.

Just remember that not all women think older men are hot, and it may be just a select few older men.

Also, my impression is that you probably have no control over any ick felt.

As I believe some girls, majority I assume, will have a solid ick for the kind of age gap you suggest, and that wouldn't budge whatever you do. I think a small minority will have a yum, which is another problem because then your age is desirable, more than you. And then... I could imagine (which is a stretch, to me) a portion of "explorers" who have no definitive answer set for large age gaps like that?

Usually it's because he can offer her financial security. Women admire that in a man. They are masculine in a way that a younger guy isn't yet. They know more about love and life and how to treat a woman. It comes with age. They've lived long enough that taught them more.

Some younger guys are actually falling in love for the first time because they are in a loving relationship with an older woman. But it's more because of the way older women treat them. Not for financial gain.

I don't get "hot" for older guys. I have social status, I have money, I'm not mentally handicapped and I have desire for fresh meat. Other girls differ likely in their preferences, maybe they want to fill some of their deficits with their partners.

C'mon man, you already know the answer to this question. The ones that can will. The ones that can't might if you tap the right keys. Women have thier tendencies, and you already know what those are. But while they have thier tendencies, women are not a monolith. What works for one will not wirk for another. The single best sraw you have though is you've been around. At this point you understand the world about as well as a man CAN understand it. And very little should phase you at this point. That is attractive. There is much that can be said on this subject. Just as there are people who have had positive experiences, there are also those who have had negative ones. Mature men tend to be more fatherly and affectionate.
