The modern school system began in Prussia, Germany. As a means of taking kids away from their parents and keeping them in a group dynamic with rigorous discipline involved. (Good. Nothing wrong with that.) Homeschooling is still illegal in Germany as of today.

The school was then adapted to the industrial revolution. Where it got its final form. Of pure hell. 12 hours a day of studying so you can be prepared to study more. Where forgetting all you learned would do no harm to you besides not letting you continue in the system. The feeling of not wanting to be a drop out and a loser keeps you enrolled and engaged. (Making slavery seem like your own choice.)

I think boys should be sent off to boarding schools where they primarily play hockey, football, basketball etc. As teams against each other. Nothing would make boys happier than being away from their parents and on a real team. Math, science, history etc. Should be secondary to happiness.

Schools should be huge. With at least 20,000 students per school. Think of it as university but for kids. Where all the unnecessary studying is done away with and physical fitness, love, competitiveness, takes precedence. There are less books to read. And at the same less classes to take. Education is replaced by experience. And experience is even replaced by excitement. Games are frequent. Science tests are replaced by science competitions. When there are tests, then if you pass, you pass. There are no letter grades. Memorizing more than 50% of anything is proof enough you can learn new things.

Games are a constant. Pick your sport because everyone has to play at least one.

I can say a lot of things. First I'll say I disagree with your idea, but I like your idea.

My belief is in freedom and liberty and I believe we should have only private schools. Let the market compete, and create the best kinds of schools and let parents decide where to send their kids to school.

Competition will show us the best schools who have the best results and then other schools will copy.

So your idea of school very well could be a school that was started and competes well in the schooling market. It could grow very popular and become a standard among school across the country.

The next thing I'll say is that you need a better reason to justify why you think the boys should be playing games (and I'd argue girls too.)

The process of gaining mastery over some kind of process is the most valuable thing a person can learn.

It teaches you how to "get good" at anything you do.

"Getting good" is not a function of intelligence. It can be, in a world where people are clueless and one stumbled upon Getting good by just being super smart.

But anyone can do the same. Anyone can learn to "get good."

The point if sports is that it teaches you how to improve at something you're trying to do. It reaches you to think dynamically and come up to solutions to problems.

Acquiring expertise in one thing gives you the ability to become an expert at anything.

My great-grandparents were Maryland slaves. Schools today exist to train you for mind-numbing, blue-collar jobs unless you go to one of the top schools which can get you ready for a white-collar career.

I disagree first of all not everybody is as good and interested in sports as you might be. I personally wasn´t I liked history, biology and politics and hated sports as in school. I also don´t think that having exams or a competition is much of different because one could see exams also as a competition or a competition as an exam.

Another part is the idea of homeschooling. In Prugia that wasn´t option for 90% of society in the first place so the original option was school or go to work with your parents. Because until the beginning of the 20th century higher education wasn´t option if your parents weren´t noble or rich. So for most families homeschooling wasn´t possible.

I think what you don´t think what you don´t think through that you certain qualifications to work in most jobs. If you didn´t learn to calculate you can´t work in economics or administration jobs. The problem is that you take your own interests and thinks that way too.

Anonymous18-24, first, I sucked at sports because I lacked athleticism. Second, there are MYRIAD high schools and colleges boys attend just to play sports and not for an education. There's a surfeit of dumb jocks, why do you want to mass-produce more?

most kids aren't jocks. the same six classmates are QUICKLY picked first in sport teams then grudgingly the other 24 kids. so sports is wrong emphasis for most students.

the wide range of studies is to allow options for college. despite each biology or economic college degree doesn't use most of school study they build on different parts of the study so study is necessary.

the European style schools led to the strong industries and technology in the west, that japan learned from, so schools is the system that worked for development.

Schools are indoctrination facilities set to train kids for boring factory jobs and babysitting services so mothers can join the work force. They teach government propaganda, provide just enough literally& math skills, teach kids to listen to authority, to sit in a cubicle all day etc

They have what are called Montessori schools that are sort of like that. They are like a hot house, sequestering the kids from the real world. My friend sent his son there and by the time he was ready to go to high school he could not handle any of the work or socialization. His father sent him to a private high school where he failed so he put him in the local high school where he also failed and finally a vocational school and he eventually dropped out. He is really a lost soul.
