Im one of the people who tell people it isn't. Really depends on whats your doing tho. But the idea of going straight into college after high school is insane to me. I know tons of people who dont know what they want to do yet are in college. Higher education is expensive now days to be going into it basically blind. I see it as an investment. If you know what you want to go for it. But you can make a great life without it. Most of the people from my graduating class (17) are about to graduate or already have and are in worse situations than me. Me personally I didn't want to go nor did I go. I went to work in construction and landscaping (Mexican🙄) and started making serious money. One day doing doing construction my car broke and I wanted to fix it myself, so I did and fell in love with car repair. Saved some money and left construction and got a job doing tires and worked my way up. Eventually getting enough to open my own shop. Barely have to work anymore, but I still do because I love it. I see lots of people with college degrees who are so broke they can't afford a tire. Ofc I also see people who did great and now are earning as much as me or even more, and Im glad for them. But I like telling people they have that option, to not go to college, because isn't for everyone. Dont go just because your parents tell you to go (especially if they aren't helping you pay)

While I think college isn't exactly a bad thing, I don't think it's for everyone. Of course doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists, etc should attend college, but other than a business degree, it isn't much use for most people.
Personally I have only got a few credits, and not having a degree hasn't stopped me from getting jobs, or pursuing my career. The only degree I would want is, as I said business, since it's universally applicable.
I've never like school, but I love learning, and on my own, I've educated myself more than anything I retained from school.
College definitely is not overrated. Here's the thing though----you can't ever in life expect that one path is the way for every single person. There are some people sitting in high school right now, that are entrepreneurs, that have plans on how to make money right out of High school, or that have already started their own business or company and for those I'd say, maybe college isn't the way for them if they've figured out logistics and ways to sustain their lifestyle without relying on their parents. For those though that are sort of lost or need school to say become a doctor, it's a way into the world and their future. Even on the social end of things, school is great for introducing you to any number of people, but it is what you make it. If you make no efforts, even the social scene can become one that doesn't appeal to you because it's either not your thing or you don't try.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with going to a community college. Trade schools are great. You get a degree in two years and you can always further your education if you wish later. Universities and state colleges are way too expensive, it’s stupid that people have to pay so much for college. Why is high school and middle school free? It’s insane. Besides, just because you have a degree doesn’t mean you’ll get hired in that field, my younger sister is a perfect example. She got a degree 10 years ago and hasn’t got to put it to use. Like AT ALL. Not to mention I’ve known plenty of people who got hired doing office work and if they’re their long enough they get promoted to a position that you would need a degree or certificate in. That’s insane too! There’s Loop holes to get a good job without having to go to college.

I have very mixed feelings about college. I was lucky enough to have a family that paid my entire college at a very good University in Chicago. I learned so much and had a really great experience. But If I were to do it over, I definitely would start off with community college. Get credits and transfer. Unless you know what you're aiming for, rethink the college life.
Depends on a lot of factors, but generally yes. Especially in the US, but also here in Europe many people think that it's the end of all - aka you can't be successful without a degree. Obviously that's ridiculous.
That being said - there are a few fields where a proper college education is an absolute must. Especially medicine comes to mind.In my day college was really optional, cuz you could land a good apprenticeship and learn a trade and make a career. Today I think a working person needs at least an AA or bachelor in order to get something more than cleaning toilets or flipping burgers.
Make sure you focus on something that will afford you plenty of job opportunities that offer an income you can live with. Please search YouTube for “Elon Musk’s opinion on College Degrees”.
They are a ‘safety’ net in case higher risk endeavours fail. However, if the aim is to gain reputational prestige and tenure within an educational institution.. then it’s clearly a must. The internet has changed the game, look at something like Khan Academy as well.Success to me is the progressive realisation of a worthy ideal. It is not black or white. Each person has his or her ideals, and if your on that path, and happy doing that, than you are successful. That is all that matters. College, university, technical college, whatever, do what ever it is that your ideals lead you to do 👍🏻
When i was in school - I loved it but I also hated it - it was interesting and exciting but stressful and scary.
If you go to one thinking it is going to be a panacea for all your problem, you have over-rated it. If you look at your life and goals realistically, no.
For me it's not a big deal. I couldn't have afforded it anyway but I think it's something you shouldn't rush into without a lot of thought first. There are other ways of gaining knowledge and skills now.
I think we could do with a whole lot more trade schools from basic to advanced trades are needed and available
It's starting to look that way, yes. It's a lot money and time wasted on bullshit. If you're not in a research or STEM field the best thing to do is go to trade school.
depends on the degree program, training, and needs
Some people aren't college material, but can do great jobs with a more focused style of post-secondary educationOnly idiots think it is
