Why are catholic schools single sex usually?

I think it depends where you live. I didn't go to those schools, but the ones where I grew up were co-ed.

Funny story though. When I was away at a University, there was an incoming freshman young lady who went to an all girls Catholic high school. In the dining hall some guy at her table saw an attractive lady walk in and said how he'd like to "do" her. She didn't understand that and when they tried to explain it to her, she had never heard that men and women were sexually attracted to each other and thought sex was only for procreation. I would think somewhere along the line she would have picked up on that regardless of the "sheltered" high school. Oh well... LOL

From the East Coast USA we don’t have any co Ed catholic schools in nyc

Here on the west coast it could go either way. If you're from NYC, you should see the comedy movie "Heaven Help Us". It is about Catholic high schools in NYC. Great movie but almost unheard of.

I didn’t go to one but have friends who did I went to public school

To discourage hanky panky at puberty and allow girls to feel safe focusing on education. Probably better reasons but I am not catholic
