What are your career lessons you've learnt so far?

I learned to be careful and pay attention at all times and not over react if you are treated unfairly because misfiring anger or being overly defensive will burn social bridges you might need later on, and also to be modest and not a show off since show offs attract rivals who want to destabilize them and I learned to keep your personal life hidden unless it benefits your job and if you decide to date, consider who is interested in you, before you consider who you are interested in, and also to flirt only in closed quarters and private spaces and not in open spaces where everyone can see what is going on, because you don’t want a reputation for being easy, and I learned not to trust people who seem undeservedly nice to everyone because a lot of them are fake and not real to people, I also learned to play dumb in front of managers but do your job well enough that they never see a reason to criticize you cause I had one boss refuse to be my job reference because she knew I was more educated than her in Canada and had better communication skills than her: I was one of her best employees and I was the only one she never yelled at at work, but she refused to act as my reference, when I left my job and I think she was jealous of me, that I could get promoted and get a masters or PhD but she could not because of her poor English.
Well, I’ve owned my own business really since after college, and I would say the main lesson that I’ve learned is to stay focused and not give up. There will always be people smarter than you, and who think they know more than you. That should motivate you, and it did me, to be better, and to outwork them. Also, don’t get discouraged my failure. The best way to learn is to make mistakes. That way, you see what you did wrong and the consequences, and you never make that mistake again!
Set a career goal early on and remain focused on achieving that goal. It took me over 20 years to gain the position that I actually wanted. Nevertheless, when I was offered early retirement, I jumped on it!
