Is it worth it to study medicine in Germany?

I'm Indian, and I have completed till level a2 in German, I have 2 more years until I turn 18 and I can take the C1 level only after I turn 18. I have 4 more levels to complete, but I'm planning to take C1 in Germany. I'm confident that I can complete B1 and B2 in a year and a half.

I want to study medicine, which is around 10 years in Germany and its 8 years in India (including 3 years village service) I'm in my senior year of high school and I can't seem to choose between India and Germany. I want to move to Germany eventually after completing my UG degree in India, but is moving to Germany for UG a smart move? They teach the courses in German in Germany, but in India, they teach in English.

I'm afraid my options would be limited only to German speaking countries if I move to Germany. My mum is very keen on me moving there, but I want to keep my options open. What if I want to move to any English speaking country in the future? (I know that English is spoken widely in Germany, but German is the widely spoken language among the people)

I am Indian and grew up in the UK, it is a known fact that Indians are disadvantaged and discriminated in education in western countries so you better be intelligent, they do us no favours and hate us being better than them. So my advice is to pick universities with a high reputation, look at the reviews and university scores, Germans can speak English not all but their healthcare is excellent and the country is lovely, you already learnt German so if you like the language keep going. Medicine is a big commitment and one which I would only advise if you are willing to commit to sitting at home reading books even whilst watching TV. Also appreciate that many medics will be narrow minded and rude they don't go out much and get stressed out, only a few I've seen are compassionate and kind people and they go really far because they are super smart. You need to decide why you want to be a doctor rather than the lifestyle it brings. There are far better careers out there that you'll enjoy. Don't do medicine just because your mom and dad said. Research around. The fact is it looks like your mom thinks she hit gold and can manipulate you and go with you. University life is having independence and keeping family available for support.

One more thing PBL tutorial based learning and the campus you live in is really important. I preferred catered campus that caters for over 300. A social life is massively important to avoid loneliness and depression. As a medic it won't be such an issue as medics are a family of students who all should look after each other incl. Minorities. But it's important to sometimes have that convenience of a premade breakfast and dinner at set times.

I'm choosing medicine because I'm really passionate about it. My mom and dad are doctors and even my grandparents are doctors, but I want to be a psychiatrist when I grow up lol, that's why I'm choosing medicine. Lol, no, my mom was reluctant on sending me abroad for UG, but I convinced her. She wants me to go there only after I complete my UG. She really really wants me to continue German because she believes that it'd open new opportunities for me. My brother is studying in England, but I do not want to go there for UG. Maybe I'll study UG in India and decide later. I'm planning to write USMLE and PLAB after PG, so I'm just gonna study UG in India and decide later. Thanks for opining on my question! Coming from Germany there are some advantages studying in Germany has. The problem with medicine is it´s not so much a question of language to me it´s rather of marks. In Germany medicine can only be studied with the best school marks. For me there´s a question of German universities acknowledging you´re school exams as an acceptable application.
I don´t want to be rude but our school system and university system is structured differently.
There are some advantages of studying in Germany though. One of them is the financial part. I study history and theology at the moment for which I pay about 370 € per semester which is about half a year long. I pay that amount of money as study fee for both subjects combined including a ticket for the public transport system, I get free entries to the bontanic garden and other reductions with it. There is a big problem though and that is accomodation. Because of the fact that many universities don´t have big student dormitories, it´s a student´s job to find a place to live.

I have researched about it, and yes, German unis do acknowledge Indian schools' exams as an acceptable application. Although, I'd have to pass the C1 level to study there. I'm aware of the differences in the education system. The medium of instruction in my school is English, and I'm a straight A student. I could rent a place and maybe work part time? My family could afford to pay for it though

Ok good to know. Many students work while studying and it´s often times possible as a study to either work for the faculty either or the library but there are often times also jobs for students in the city as well. If you think about moving to Germany avoid the bigger cities like Frankfurt, Munich or Hamburg because renting here is quite expensive plus students come from all over the cities or the closer areas which can make connecting harder. I would rather search about the differences in the structure of studying because if that´s no problem I think the rest wouldn´t be a problem as well. My parents are doctors and they worked a year in Cambridge and got acknowledged their with German doctors but I´m not sure if it´s different now because that was about 30 years ago.

Oh alright. And one more thing, I was not aware of the foundation course thing that I have to do if I apply to a university in Germany. You were right, schooling in Germany is 13 years, and not 12. Three things to consider:
- University admission places for medicine are highly sought after and limited (Numerus Clausus for Germans ~1, x). You might want to check East German universities for a slight advantage.
- Housing in many larger university cities has become really expensive. Again, advantage for people living in the Eastern parts of Germany.
- Lastly, don't underestimate the time and effort to achieve a C1 level German! B1/B2 will be fairly tough, C1 of course is even tougher.

It's very difficult to get into medical school in Germany. This is the main thing you have to worry about: Numerus Clausus

Don't count on being able to work much or maybe at all during your studies. And you may find yourself having to do or redo a medical residency depending on where you move after finishing medical school in Germany.

If you haven''t studied in German, it will initially be a big shock, so you'd want to be at C2 and make friends who are native speakers in order to study with them.

Well I don't know how universities work but using common sense I think you should go to a university in a country that speaks the same language you understand cause what's the point of them teaching you if you won't understand it, I think you should make a decision based on what will give you the biggest chances of succeeding and if you know more than one language I think you should take the country that has your first language just to play safe, if the language thing isn't a problem then maybe decide based on what country needs the most help in this profession

If you are asking for my personal opinion, I don't think people are gonna like my response, perhaps think I'm an idiot, who knows, either ways I don't have faith in universities, not because I don't think they do a good job cause I know they do but it's cause as a person that wants to be my own boss, run my own companies, I don't want to waste so much time on my life preparing myself for something I'm not planning on doing my whole life, I don't plan on working for someone else my whole life, it's why I was never interested in college or universities

The only thing I can tell is that people that I know they studied engineering and went to Germany got jobs that were very well paid and they were very happy about them.

Which suggest me that in Germany they usually appreciate highly qualified jobs, like engineering or medicine.

It depends which university you go to, choose one that's has an international accreditation for medicine and you should be ok to work anywhere after. Chase your dreams!

Don't know about village service, but the guys I know completed Mbbs in five years.
Maybe your state have a different system.

Have you analysed the costs of studying and accommodation in Germany?

yeah MBBS including house-surgency is 5 years, but they have introduced something called village service for 2/3 years, I think.
It's pretty cheap, and my parents would be able to afford it

What about studying outside your state, finish the course in five years and move to Germany for higher education?
