Do self-improvement books open up new intellectual horizons for you and why/why not?

Never read one to be honest. I have never felt the need to. Now, that is not to say I haven’t thought I needed to improve myself. It is just that I go about it a different way. If I feel really lost and like there is something that I need to fix about myself or improve, I write it down.

Then, I list the things I believe can make me achieve that change to improve my life, myself or whatever. I basically create a plan and then follow it.

I also spend quiet time thinking and reflecting. Often, meditation helps out a lot in calming the mind and body. I find those types of self help books would not be able to address every individual’s needs.

They would be far too general and everyone copes with things differently. I know myself better than anyone so who better to figure out how to improve?

thank you for your opinion. you really did show me a new method to improve myself. but, self-help books indeed talk about what people need in general. it won't give you EXACTLY what you are looking for, but it will definitely show you how to deal with several circumstances and situations that you might go through at least once in your life. however, it will definitely change your point of view about some things that you used to assume are things they are not. I highly recommend 101 essays that will change the way you think by Brianna Wiest. it made me fall in love with self-help books and I definitely don't regret reading it.

You see what happens when Self is idolized. Look around you in this world and that is what “self-help” has gotten you. The Selfie 🤳 generations have produced unprecedented number of Narcissists.
People at their core and in their heart are fallen. And no kind of advice or help from that fallen population I’d going to help anything but emptiness, sense of lacking, and increaed personal chaos.
THEY ARE STEALING YOUR MONEY. And you are eager to believe it…because you “want to improve”…
