My employer says it's up to me to tell them that I don't think I have the right personality for the job, rather than them realizing for themselves that I'm not the right fit and letting me go. Why would they do that, if they can clearly see for themselves that I'm bad at it? I mean, there are more government resources for people who lost their jobs by accident rather than on purpose, and it's in their best interest to let me go before I start making a mess of everything. So it's a win-win situation if they are the ones that let me go rather than me voluntarily quitting.
Depending on the time on the job, they would have to pay unemployment if they were to fire you. If you quit unless something has changed that I don't know about since it has been a little since I looked it up and as of writing this am being to lazy to check, you are not able to collect unemployment.
Ideally I would hope it is that they are giving you a chance to get your sea legs so to speak in finding your stride. If that is the case, I hope it works out for you. :D

If they fire you, you can collect unemployment which they have to pay for. You can also sue them for wrongful termination. They are saving money by waiting for you to quit

You voluntarily quitting means you can't sue them for wrongful dismissal. It's also much simpler for you to quit than it is for them to take you through all sorts of training or disciplinary action before they can sack you.
Maybe they just want you to at least try and maybe find a way to do it. Maybe THEY'D rather not shut you down until YOU'VE done it. Figure out what's stopping you or holding you back and try to find a way around it. Quite often, I found better and quicker ways of getting things done than the way they taught me to do it!
Because they owe you u employment if they let you go vs you voluntarily ending the relationship. Messed up i know, but that's "progress" right?
If they fire you there is always the risk that you will sue. A lot of companies would rather get you to quit voluntarily.
It is because, at the moment, they have no reason to fire you. So they don't want them firing you to come back and bite them in the ass
Maybe cause they really don't mind you not being able to do it an most likely like making you an other employees do something that isn't your skill type to make you feel low or make you beg to do something else
I think they are expecting you to ask for help or training, if you need it. Good companies tend to do this, but they should be providing you with more guidance.
Is your boss/supervisor a Dude he Probably wants you… just saying

you should resign... before they start thinking about ways to make you resign, lol
It is easier for you to quit than for them to fire you. We had a guy that should have been fired 5 months ago; but we had to wait for HR to approve of the firing after we jumped through all of their hoops.
Because you have the skill, not the attitude.
So they feel bad being the ones firing you.
It can be, if you quit , you can't get unemployment insurance but if they lay you off , you can draw unemployment benefits. This is just one reason.
They wanna give you a chance
