In some cultures and industries, a woman's appearance and dress code can play a role in determining career opportunities and advancement.
In some cultures and industries, there may be traditional or conservative expectations for women's appearance and dress that are considered more appropriate or desirable in the workplace. For example, in some corporate or formal settings, it may be expected that women wear certain types of clothing, such as suits or skirts, and avoid more casual or revealing attire.
In some cases, these expectations may be based on gender stereotypes and biases that associate femininity with appearance and suggest that women who dress in a certain way are more competent or professional.
In some male-dominated industries, women may face additional pressure to conform to these dress codes in order to fit in and be taken seriously.
As a result, women who do not conform to these expectations may face discrimination or bias in their career opportunities, including being passed over for promotions, being perceived as less competent, or being excluded from professional networks or events.
Women should be evaluated based on their skills, qualifications, and contributions to the workplace, regardless of their appearance.
I doubt anyone could ever truly quantify pretty privilege. I think it matters a lot though. Take first impressions, if people see you as a slob initially it'll take you forever to change their opinion of you subliminally.
