When applying for a job, is my dress important or unimportant when I go there?

It depends if the Manager is nice or a Rude person. If manager is nice you could come in as yourself wearing Your normal jeans and black white shirt clothes and even wearing a Zip up jacket or hoodie.
Maybe the clothes you wear don’t look that nice and maybe your shoes has some dirt on them. You would be coming in as someone that looks like ya need a Job and from the clothes you wear it says like this person Looks Poor and has a good personality and seems nice 😊 I should hire that person. But if you come in there trying to look good in front of the manager the manager is going see right through that. It’s seeking approval that’s what it is and That is considered a weakness in the eyes of these managers. They don’t want you to come in Acting all proper trying to get get there approval. Because trying to get there approval is seen as You don’t Trust your skills and abilities. They don’t want you to come in acting like a robot with no emotions talking about how you will be there when they need you. They want you to Act like you have a personality they want to see that you have feelings and emotions and a personality. They wanna see you as a Good person not just someone is only wanting the job cause some benefit.
People will tell you managers want you to act and be proper and dress a certain way. That’s just a bunch of crap they want you to come in as someone with a personality someone that is nice and Seems like a cool person not some Robot that is seeking approval. Being Honest is great when doing interviews like for instance.
I told the manager My whole life story and why i Want the Job I even got Pretty worried and explained How I haven’t been doing to well. And just want Something good in my life. I got that Job so yah
Managers see weaknesses and they see strength they want someone who Is nice and Has a personality not someone who comes into the job interview seeking approval and trying so hard to be Proper worrying about what the manager will think.
Don’t listen to these other people that tell you to come in Trying to act all proper it decreases Your chance of getting the job by like 1000 percent. I know because I used to do the whole dress up and act all proper. Not anymore though.
Every time I do an interview I get the Job and it’s because I don’t come in as someone seeking approval and acting all proper. I come in as myself with my personality and I Let the manager see that I have strengths and that I’m only Human just wanting to do the best that I can.
It greatly depends on the role and position.
i recently interviewed a number of girls for a PA role.
it said in the job spec, smart professional attire.
They will often be the first people seen by customers etc, casual for some roles does not cover it.
with some jobs how you dress each day can change.
in the summer I might spend a day in shorts if just me and a few others in work, if more people then more casual. If I visit another office location then it’s smart business wear.
Dress like you would for the interview, perhaps a step more casual.
But be presentable.
You never know who you'll end up delivering your resume to, and chances are good if it's a smaller company that whoever does receive your application will give an impression to the hiring manager based on your interaction - clothes included.
A kid once applied to a clothing store I worked at, gave us his one pager resume with stains on it dressed in a stained and torn wife beater and ripped up jeans. We didn't even give it to the owner - the manager knew he wasn't gonna hire this guy so we trashed the resume. Owner thanked us for not wasting his time.
We had a better hire later that week.
Dress well.
Dress more than casual. You don't want to come off like you're going to the grocery store all casual.
This is an important day for you. I would wear a dressed up skirt or dressy slacks, a nice top/blouse and maybe a light weight blazer. Nice matching shoes and bag. Not too much jewelry. Make sure your fingernails are clean. If you polish them, put on a fresh coat of fingernail polish. Don't chew gum. Come prepared with a writing tablet and a pen to write with.
Good luck 🌹

Dress as though you already had the job and were reporting for work.
When I looked across my desk at an applicant, one of the things I was trying to establish is how well they will fit in. If you already look like you were one of my team, then so much the better.
Just dress like your prospective co-workers. Assume that the person interviewing you is hoping to hire you, not looking for a trivial reason to reject you.
I'm a software developer and when we did in-person interviews we didn't pay much attention to what they wore. It's not part of the evaluation.
So many of you are saying how to dress according to how other will think or their opinion of you.
I will not in my work life or personal life, ever, dress in a way that makes other people think or feel better about me.
I show up on time and I do my work, wear my PPE and follow worksafe and ministry of transportation, and I challenge work place policies as well.
I hire my employer. End of discussion.
When in took a bunch of business classes in high school the rule of thumb was to dress one step higher than that position you were applying for. Funny you mention this, today i was at jack in the box and this girl came in to drop off her application wearing her workout clothes. I just kind of shook my head.
She’s came in there and dropped off her application wearing workout clothes. Good for her The employee or manager saw a Girl that strives hard to get stronger
And it also shows she’s not lazy.
I think common sense applies. How your dressed might not get you a job but it could lose you a job.
They say, "dress for the job you want, not the job you have" but I tried that. I dressed as Batman for work and now I'm told I have a meeting with HR.
Pretty important actually. A bit formal at least. Give them the impression you're perfect. It's just for the job interview. When you get the job you can just look at your colleagues and tone it down.
Yes, the way you present yourself plays a very important role in making impression. Always wear comfortable and professional clothes in office even when you are working.
When you go into the interview, before you even open your mouth there is already an opinion formed of you, and that is down to how you dress and how you behave.
So its it important? Absolutely!
Important
I wore a suit to my interview for working in the restaurant, the boss called me a pompous prat but I laughed it off and get the job that kick-started the best year of my life
Id say for women its more important to look good in interviews. Women are treated differently in a work place where more importance is placed on your looks more so than men.
It's actually very important. Because they look at that in how seriously are you taking the interview and professional you are.
Yes you need to be dressed for the role or slightly better.
Please remember the very true saying which is "First Impressions Count"... Good Luck.
Depends on the job. If applying as a Wall Street broker faded Levi's probably aren't going to cut it. Applying for a job unloading trucks at Walmart, they're fine.
Yes if your body all covered up , you won't even have a chance to apply the job , however , if you dress like a bitch you probably get the job just give it a try and you will see
Generally you want to be at least business casual for an interview. Lately though I'm all about those crocs and sweatpants.
Depends. If it's an office job, dress business smart. If it's a coffee shop or a store, for example, then work casual. NEVER underestimate how to dress for an interview. If in doubt, ask others.
Very important. Your appearance is like a business card in such occasions.
Dress is one of the important thing in your personality. It shows how you carry yourself.
I would dress nicely, because I would dress that way when I go there too. If it's fully casual, I may wear casual clothes but nice looking ones.
