How’s your job hunting these days? Have you been looking for a job while still employed? What’s your reason for doing so?
Sometimes you just gotta go for it and take the leap because either you dare or you don't.
When I was younger i would just go for it with no regret and backup plan. I always told myself either you do or don't. If I wait on something and trying to secure another then I ain't leaving in the first place.
Now days am working for myself and I tell my employee's that it's nice to have a back up but if they want to jump ship nothing wrong with learning the hard way. Mistakes is what we learn from.12 Reply- +1 y
It definitely matters if you have bills to pay. You really gotta weigh your options... If the job is awful, then its not worth your mental health. But I would still use it a last resort vs putting less effort at work while looking for a job and interviewing.

+1 yHi @Pinay_ako, at the moment I'm in a steady job which pays the bills. Right now I'm starting to feel rather stale where I am so will be looking to move on towards the end of year.
Moving to a new job every few years keeps me motivated and fresh.

+1 yI've done it many times. Either I moved geographically, I was just ready for a change, or I thought the job sucked. If I think a job sucks, I'm gonna be gone real fast.
Finding jobs is easy. I never worried about it.
I can only think of one job that I somewhat regretted leaving. But even then it was not a big deal, especially since they shut down a couple years later. I liked working there, but it was probably for the better that I left. I ended up getting more valuable experience at the next place.
10 Reply 3.5K opinions shared on Education & Career topic. After I had my hip replacement I went back to work. I was doing special projects for the IT department at a college. When I went back to work I find somebody else in my cubicle and the boss stuck me at a desk answering the phone. Most of the calls were for resetting passwords. Since I was considered a contractor I was not allowed to have access to the application you needed to reset passwords. I was supposed to track down a technician and have them do it. It was obvious to me that I was being set up to fail so after 3 or 4 weeks of that I went to the CIO and told her that this would be my last week. I did not have anything else lined up but soon I went back to teaching.

+1 yYes once - but I was undergoing education so I still had money coming in. Ended up dropping that education but it kept me above water.
I agreed to a employment when I finished my current degree in an institution I didn't want to be at - in hopes I could be transferred later. That is paying off now.

+1 yI have never needed a job cause I had my parents and my savings so I left my job if I did not want to work or if my working conditions changed. Like I have no intention of returning to my old job because I can't imagine wearing a face mask for 6-8 hours a day. Before the pandemic, my job was okay, no masks were needed and I could socialize with nice people at work.
10 Reply Of course. these folks I was busting my ass for did not care that I came in on a day they said you could come in to make some extra dough. Just to get my ass kicked out because "i didn't call" this stranger and tell him. I told my manager 3 days before and thought it was fine. And the last straw was to cut my hours for a $11 salary job.
:)... go fak ya self

Didn't ask. There was a mass quitting of supervisors there. Three of us left the same week. The last one about a month later. We just got fed up with the incompetence of the management. Spent some time unemployed then went to drive a van for Amazon after that. Graduated with a BS in biology and got a real job after 9 months of Amazon's bullshit.

A month, my saving took quite the hit. There was also this period of time in there where I ended up working for what turned out to be a pyramid scheme… but we don’t need to talk about that.
+1 yYeah my last, I quit for end of December but already stopped working at the beginning of December cause of vacation days left... anyways I started searching middle of December and started my new Job this Jan. 16th

My reasoning? I hated my last Job and I knew I won't have it hard to find a new one cause my field is very searched and asked for... still today I get mails with Job offers from my applications in December
+1 yNo I’ve always made sure to find a new job before getting another one.
But I’ve gotten hired on the spot for every job I’ve had so I’m sure even if I did quit on the spot, I wouldn’t have any trouble finding another job right away10 Reply- 1.1K opinions shared on Education & Career topic.
+1 yI've changed jobs a few times, and except for the one time I was laid off (made redundant), which was a surprise, I have always had another job lined up to go to.
10 Reply No.
But my contract was prematurely terminated on the start of Covid though, all 100+ of us. :
Found a job after 3 months. Never entering as a contractual ever again.
10 ReplyNope lol getting a job in my field isn’t easy, and I have too many responsibilities to risk not having an income.

+1 yI'm not but my partner is looking for a new job while still employed. That is the smartest move, being unemployed makes it harder to get a job.
10 ReplyNever but as a contractor jobs expire and I was caught out in between contracts for a significant period.
10 ReplyI always look for jobs when I'm employed b/c I'm always looking to trade up for a better job. I will NOT leave a job without a backup job in the pipeline. That is the way to homelessness.
