Do universities let prospective students stay in dorms?

I’m confused because a family friend said their son stayed in the dorm over night as part of the tour of the school. I asked was he accepted and he said no.

When I lived on campus at age 18 I had a high school friend sleep over in my dorm for at least a day. She was a good friend of mine in high school and we later branched into different areas in the province. I also know a guy that slept at his friends university dorm for around 3 months when his parents kicked out the house. I don’t know if they kicked him out or if they were treating him so horribly he preferred living alone and moved out willingly.

Yes when touring you can stay in the dorm for w night or two then you have to leave after the orientation/tour ends
