Should public schools be forced at all times to be 100% transparent to parents about the school curriculum, why, why not?

Of course! Parents and families have a right to know what their children will be learning. The curriculum expectations here are the same for all schools across the province, whether they are public, Catholic, or private schools. Each school will have its own philosophy and method of implementing the curriculum. The actual documents outlining the curriculum (the one that teachers use) and resources pertaining to the curriculum are freely available as PDFs on the government’s website for parents and in fact, everyone, to view at their leisure.
In my experience though, many parents whose children I have taught over the last 6 years or so haven’t the foggiest idea of curriculum expectations, even though I provide all of them with plans and outlines of the curriculum, and lessons and reading materials that link to various sections of it. Half the time they don’t even read my emails or the weekly school-wide announcements and newsletters. I’ve taught in both private and public schools.
Yes ofcorse. That doesn't mean parents have the right to choose everything. Like surtain subjects like math, English etc has to be teached but parents should always be aware of everything that is going on
Thank you for MHO!
For sure. Parents of course have a right to know.
What I’d say CAN’T happen is letting the parents influence it. I feel like we often forget that literally any idiot can have children, so being parent doesn’t mean you have any qualifications to decide how to best teach children. I’m not particularly impressed by the current adults who exist, so I’m not sure I love the idea of these people raising their kids (likely multiple) to be idiots like they are to fuck up the next generation. You can’t just let the person who decides to yell the loudest at the school board meetings dictate how you teach because they don’t want the fake realities they’ve convinced their children of disrupted by actual reality, lmao.
that's never going to happen because actions speak louder than words
schools can claim to teach students X instead of Y
but schools will secretly teach Y instead of X behind closed doors

Yes’m it’s important for parents to know what their child is being taught. Parents should be teaching the children their values not the teachers teachers are there to teach a math, English history, science and gym class that’s it.
Yes, of course they should. The parents, via real estate taxes, are paying for the schools.
Honest opinion? Public schools, at least where I live, have become indoctrination centers and should be abolished. But since that will not happen, yes, parents should be made aware of everything.
Yeah. Parents/carers/etc. should know what their kids are learning, so they can help with homework, among other things. Not to mention, it would mean there's less chance of spreading wokery.
Simples...
Yes. Children are wards of their parents, not the state. Therefore, the parents have a right to know what their children are being taught.
Yes but we do have to recognize that many parents are morons and shouldn't be allowed to influence the curriculum because parts don't confirm to their religious or political beliefs.
@msc545 They are not professionals, they are indoctrinators. Parents aren't asking for this because they pay for it, they're asking for it because they are entrusting their children to these monsters.
There are other educational options besides regular public school. Private schools, charter schools, religious/parochial schools, Montessori schools, homeschooling and its related philosophy of un-schooling, etc. It’s crazy how much people want to shit on public schools when there are so many other options out there that will fit different needs and belief systems.
No. Many parents are uneducated and misunderstand things. Paying for something does not equate to total control over professionals.
I think "professionals" is subjective. My ex is a teacher. I've met many of her "peers." There are some real "place holders" there. All our schools but one suck here and kids are getting passed through that can't even read. I agree with you though that parents should NOT have control over the curriculum, but I'm not sure if that's a necessary component of transparency. I think the parents should have 100% knowledge of what is being taught, and if that interferes with all their flat-earth BS then they can pull their kids out, teach them (haha... teach) at home and make the school environment less disruptive.
I wouldn't consider sending my kids to public schools at all, only home school or private, Hitler's words haunt me.. "Whoever controls the minds of the youth controls the future"..
Why wouldn;t they? Do schools have something bad to hide?
Yes, the absolutely do. LOTS of teachers are pushing transgenderism very hard, encouraging kids who aren't happy or don't feel like they fit in (regardless of the reasons why they feel that way) to transition, and kids who do are given lots of special treatment. And I don't just mean calling them a different name or pronoun, I mean directing them to medical facilities run by trans activists who will prescribe hormone blockers (the exact same drugs used for permanent chemical castration, and have other serious side effects), and by school and sometimes state policy, they conceal all of this from the parents. And they are doing this to kids as young as 10 years old, and overwhelmingly girls, who reach puberty first and are easier to manipulate.
It's likely that elementary schools in your state have 40+ book titles in the school library pushing queer and transgender ideology - and teachers and librarians push these books on children (my sister, who was an elementary school librarian, quit her job because of the pressure at all levels to push this ideology, and she considers herself a proud Biden liberal.
Even math books have been rewritten to be full of Woke propaganda. It's right out of a dystopian movie.
People love to think that all schools have something to hide. However, they are the ones who refuse to take the time to access curriculum documents that are freely available to the public. They refuse to take the time to speak or communicate to their children’s teachers, or read school newsletters and announcements, or bother looking into their school’s teaching philosophy.
They’d rather assume things about us as teachers and get defensive (see the above comment) rather than actually listen to us and what we have to say. And most of the time, it’s people who don’t even have children at all.
No because conservatives will not approve of LGBTQIA+
We have to force kids to realize they are not the gender they were born with
Absolutely
