Should jobs have an age limit?

Some jobs have extra medical requirements after a certain age. If you pass them you are fine no matter your age. Some jobs you are retired at a certain age. What do you think?

In Ireland you are automatically retired as a firefighter at 55. Here is Mike Tyson training at 55. I would think he would be fit to be a firefighter at his age and better than most men in their 20s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQmSonaNUwk

I have just read an article that 96-year-old Federal Circuit judge Pauline Newman was suspended from her job by the Circuit‘s judicial council for being forgetful, confused and belligerent. She was appointed by Ronald Reagan in 1984. What is going on in a country that needs people over the age of 80 in these jobs? They can’t find enough capable jurists?

She refused to participate. That’s also the official reason for the suspension.

Many jobs do have either age or health requirements.
I have a physical evey year and have to do a physical agility test and it still feels good kicking some of the younger members butts.

In Ireland you would be retired at 55. I don't agree with this. If you can still do the job you should be ok. What will you do if you can no longer do the medical? or fitness? bus driver?

No, but maybe there should be physical requirements/ . People can be in good shape to do most jobs well into their 70s. However it vsries by the individual. Somebody that likes a healthy life style, works out a lot and is active can be in better shape at 70 than a couch potato is at 50.

Mike Tyson is training to fight people not fire which is much more dangerous
Being fit varies from task to task, a really fit Professional Boxer won't automatically be a good Firefighter and Firefighting job demands much more than being physically fit

No, they shouldn’t do you expect people to just lay around the house all day and get thrown out of their house even if they’re older because they don’t have any money coming in and maybe they don’t have a retirement plan things always happen
