Which job do you think would be better: dishwasher at a cafe or Dollar General?

The Dollar general is a closer walk to my house, the restaurant is an hours walk. Dollar general is like 25 minutes. I'm nervous because I always hear bad things about Dollar general.

I would think people are more polite at cafes cause they hire employees based not purely on mechanical skill but also on social desirability and likability since the cafe is a social forum and not just a food service provider. There is another thing you should consider which is job security. A store that views you as an extra might target you if they need to schedule lay offs. My dad knows a business that pays more than his current job, but they are heartless when it comes to their turnover rate and are not long term safety positions like his current job. He might get fired after 8 months or 3 years if he changes jobs and takes the higher salary.

Dude, that's a tough call. Here's how I see it:

Dollar General:
- Closer walk so less tiring, which is a plus.
- But yeah, I've heard stories about management being super strict and up your butt all the time. Not always the most chill atmosphere.

Cafe:
- Way farther walk sucks, but maybe you can get a bike or something to make it easier.
-However, restaurant work can be more fun I think. You'd be around people and food all day. Managers might be more laid back too.

Honestly, since Dollar General is closer I'd probably go with that just for convenience sake at first. But keep your eyes out for any other restaurant jobs that open up closer to home.

Or you could try Dollar General and if the managers are nightmares, maybe the cafe would take you even with the distance. At least you'd have work in the meantime.

Either way, both jobs will get you cash. Just do your best wherever you end up and it'll work out!

Dollar General's where I live have 2 of them, the smaller one and larger one, and I doubt that either one of them is a restaurant, so this got me stunned, but thanks for sharing this with us.

It depends on what you’re prioritizing. Working retail probably means something like $10 an hour at most, dishwashers get paid more on average, but it’s hours of standing on your feet just to get your hands wet and hurt your back if you have poor posture. Retail isn’t much better than dishwashing, if your main goal is convenience then suck it up and apply to dollar general

Dollar General... personally, I would very much rather have a few different tasks and things to do than doing the very same thing, every single day

Whats the pay and hours? Do you eat free at cafe once per shift? Cafe might be better despite distance you can buy a bike or use public transport
