Imagine you have a very specific skill, you are more skilled in it that most other peers and you know it. The interview starts off with "I am not interested in your skills, I have plenty of other people who would claim the same. What else is a reason to hire you?". This happened in my first ever interview and it caught me off balance. The requiter had no experience in my field at all so she couldn't judge any kind of technical skill.
But to make it even worse she asked what some of the stuff was that I wasn't good at yet, and kept asking "What else?" forcing me to come up with more and more things I might be bad at.
I didn't have any interview experience back then, now I do so it would be completely different if someone tried that on me today. Every interview I had since went super well though, and the majority of those have an idea what they are talking about so then its easy for me to leave a good impression since I know my stuff.
Getting bossed around by some detached HR goon is the worst.
@DryGermanGuy Yup, those tactics would no longer work on me these days and if she insisted i'd walk out because I know my value. I approach interviews like first dates now, its not about you doing an interrogation on me its about getting to know if me and the company are a good fit for each other culturally. So I lay down what I am looking for in a company, they lay down what they are looking for in an employee and if it matches I usually then leave such a good impression I'm the one they pick.
I only have one goal in a job interview, and thats to leave the interview being on the same page as them. I had great job interviews where we mutually agree'd we were not a good fit at the moment and they'd love to hire me in a different circumstance.
