You definitely need education, whether it's a degree in some field or a trade apprenticeship. You can get that from a parent who is a professional tradesman, a trade school, a college or university.

But even if you go into business as a landscaper or mechanic, you also need to learn how to manage a business, which requires schooling.
I have relatives who are successful farmers. They learned from their parents. But, aside from ongoing education in farming methods, they are businessmen.

And beyond your career, you should learn other things on your own by reading books. In that sense, the more educated you are, the better.

I find that people with a graduate degree in a field aren't necessarily informed about much else. And I have known people with little or no college education who educated themselves and were quite knowledgeable. Education doesn't have to be formal. There are lots of examples in history to prove that.

The Church with its Caste System of Feudalist Europe had the higher ups cling onto knowledge because with knowledge, there’s power. They kept it locked away from the masses, since religion was the only thing they knew and were taught about, they stuck to the broken system.
If you struggle in poverty , the dirt , and deal with thievery and disease then one day you might reincarnate into a Lord to go up the Caste System which was utilizing religion to control the masses.

I beg your pardon, but ignorance is very much NOT the root of all evil. Ignorance just means that you don't know something. And it was So Crates that said "true wisdom consists in knowing that you know nothing."

Now ideally, education, as Albert Einstein said, ought to be more about the training of the mind to think rather than simply memorizing facts. If you ask me though, formal education has failed MISERABLY at both.
