Is it common for English teachers to encourage English degrees/field of study?

ever since i was a little boy i've always been so encouraged by English teachers to pursue English studies. it didn't stop until i completed standard English classes for non English majors. some areas probably have a different names for English like language arts, language studies but it's all the same. in fact, just writing that last sentence made me think how i'd describe this class as anything other than a language class like Spanish, german, etc. it isn't different. so, we could substitute any language as long as it is your native language.

i've talked to many people throughout life and it's always the English teacher that encourages the students. is this a semi-personal phenomenon or is this a common thing for English teachers in particular to do? were you ever pulled aside or given special acknowledgement like this from a teacher?

i'm going to say the obvious to end. sure, maybe the English teachers were the bookworms of society and they really enjoy reading material from their students? and when s/he enjoys the material from them s/he takes notice. come to think of it... we had to write a poem in Spanish class. while my Spanish was fine it was just as good as the rest of the class. but i was pulled aside for that poem and the teacher was almost breaking down because of it.

I don't know? i'm rambling about 2 paragraphs too long. i'm looking for answers other than they liked your writing. we all know that English as a degree is a very difficult career choice. it seems contradictory to support a study that difficult to succeed in and very easy to get. what are your thoughts on this? should i do a myTake next time?
