A few patterns I’ve seen:
- Some left quickly because the role didn’t match their real interests or values, even if the title and salary looked good.
- Others were let go because they underestimated culture fit or soft skills, focusing only on technical ability.
- A few simply outgrew the job and moved on to better roles, which is a success in my book.
I learned to:
1) be brutally honest about fit,
2) prepare them for the culture, not just the tasks,
3) treat every move as one step in a longer journey.
