it would be being a homicide detective,
an FBI agent,
or a psychologist/psychiatrist
When I was a kid, I first wanted to be an inventor. I've always been creative in my ideas and that's why I've always leaned towards design. I wouldn't say that's off the table entirely, but it's just really hard to come up with unique inventions as well as the cost of of paying someone to either program or design it, unless you know how to do those yourself. It's a very difficult process.
I also wanted to be a psychologist or neurologist, but those require many years of education to be able to practice... years I don't have anymore.
And another is an architect. It would be so satisfying to see my visions and ideas of landscapes, houses, and buildings come to life. Imagine driving by a building and saying, "I designed that." I can't imagine much more satisfying jobs than that, other than maybe saving peoples lives, but that's a different kind of satisfying.
4 years is a long time in my opinion. Would have been nice if I started in my early 20s.
While they are cool jobs, I have a different dream I'm currently pursuing and content with this one
design, engineering and building... of bridges
that was the dream... but at the time, there was no ideal opportunity
I actually joined the NAVY shortly, with the idea of becoming an engineer and I almost went for it, but then I had to decline... because I also had to murder people in the process, so... no
Civil Engineering... that would be the ones making bridges
oh, I know... and I actually know a bit of all of that, since I actually studied it
I just didn't graduate
no... lol
that was just a child dream, it's different now
in theory, yes...
I just have different priorities now, as an adult.. maybe I don't build bridges, but I do get to design houses... which is also a great deal of fun too
exactly !!
that's the reason number one... why I quit college half-way
I wanted something different, and something that would make me happier, and I have that now, luckily
yeah, life can be funny that way
-marine. wanted to be one when i was in early high school, lost interest when i realized i'd just be doing pt and random boring stuff on a base, instead of being shipped to the middle east and i'd never get put in the frontlines ever probably because i'm not a guy.
-cia/nsa agent. self explanatory
- actress. self explanatory
- detective. thought that sounded cool for a while in my late teens, but i then realized it's very very rare irl to have female detectives and it's very dangerous for your family. so abandonned that.
- doctor. started higher education late, i can't afford to be a student for over a decade.
I wanted to be a comedic actress/writer like for SNL or something but it's a very hard field to break into and I wasn't really that focused or disciplined when I was younger so I was content to just let it stay a dream.
Now I just practice my comedy lines safely here on G@G where all they can do is block me instead of throw rotten tomatoes at me. 🤣
Ty for the MHO 😊
I can imagine you with Marcelo in a skit.
@Apulu_backagain 🤣🤣🤣
For me, it was being a professional basketball player.
I played seriously through my teens, trained hard, and even structured my school life around it. But by my early 20s it was clear I didn’t have the size, athleticism, or standout talent needed for the top levels. That reality stung.
What helped was asking: “What do I actually love about this dream?” For basketball, it was teamwork, strategy, pressure, and improvement. I found those in business, teaching, and coaching careers—different jersey, same core feelings.

I wanted to be a lawyer but I knew I wasn't going to last through all that schooling.
When I was young, I wanted to be an Air Force pilot, but at the time, they didn't allow people who wore glasses to become pilots. I've worn glasses since I was 7.
So, I followed my second choice and became an engineer, and had a long, successful and enjoyable career
@mon1to I started as a electrical engineer (my BS degree), moved into software engineering, and then spent the most time as a systems engineer.
@mon1to Best of luck to you. 😀
@mon1to Only if you make it tough.
@mon1to Most of the math in engineering is simple algebra, using formulas. And there are several software tools to use so that manually calculating math is only occasionally done. Of course, it's always a good idea to do a rough manual calculation to check that the tool is correct.
I wanted to be on Broadway or be in a band, but I just didn't have the chops. I could never get into any acting companies and the bands I was in never did well. I might have been able to find some success had I really doubled down, but I got a job at a newspaper as a graphic designer, and that lead me to a happy career as an artist. I followed that path till I had my first kid.
Honestly I'm happy how things turned out and I still do karaoke from time to time and I've even been in community theater before so I think you really can have it all so long as you are open to posibilties.
Criminal lawyer because I wasn't allowed to take the law entrance test of any university so I won't be studying law now and it's too late.
Pianist because I wasn't allowed to take the professional music exams.
My parents didn't want me to choose a dangerous line which involves crimes and all, they suggest corporate law but I don't have interest in working for companies against the people.
And they didn't allow me the music exams because studies are more important than those exams according to them.
Yeah, I mean they are restrictive but only because they want me to have a safe and secure future. I'll study Economics and Philosophy combination course in college now and they're happy about it.
WWE professional Wrestler. I did real well at the wrestling School. But unfortunately, the company was unorganized at my school and they completely folded and went off TV. I couldn’t even finish this course. I was halfway through it and it was a long drive as well. It’s not my fault that they collapsed
I wanted to be a studio musician, but it's a hard career to get into, especially these days with so much AI killing off all creativity.
I wanted to work in mental health but I have a low tolerance for bad smells. I can’t even sit next to my dad in a car, I see him every day but I cannot handle his smell.
So if someone is taking a psychiatric drug or suffering a certain disease, they might give off a foul odour you can smell if you are close to them.
I would like to open a book cafe or a flower shop. Maybe opening a high and primary school where given free and true education
@mon1to But these are things that everyone wants, and there’s a very high chance of messing up. It’s a big risk, so I don’t think I’ll get into it.
I wish you more luck then ever for your good aims
Formula One driver would have been an absolute dream.
But I was too poor, too heavy, too tall
Emphasis on too poor
Im basically in my dream job... the job is great the people are meh
My sister is one of those you mention.
I am perusing my dream job. Hope I get there.
Well, I've pretty much done everything I wanted to do and gotten every job I ever wanted. I'm on my 4th career and in control of who I work with, when, and how much I get paid. I have no regrets or unfulfilled desire for other jobs. I've had a blast.
I wanted to be a pilot. I was in Air Force ROTC in college , during basic I could not pass the eye test.
Or you could be a spy! International intrigue!
You could definitely be a phycologist, phycologist - therapist. You should look into that!
Lots of therapists have issues and that's why they become therapists! Giving therapy is therapeutic. Lol. It's true though
Formula 1 driver... but I was too poor and too slow.
It's not that I couldn't pursue them, I did, loads of times!! It's that no one would ever hire me for any of them and then gave me lame excuses as to WHY they won't!!
I'd LOVE to work in a record store, radio station, record pressing plant (but, there's none anywhere near here) or recording studio!!
So, you want to be both Dr Lecter and Clarice?
Travel show host, but it's damn near impossible to get into. One guy said he was harassing TV stations for like a decade, before someone finally took him. I just don't have the patience for that.
Tour company is another one, but where I live, there isn't really a market on it.
The only other one is opening a restaurant, if I could get a girlfriend who cooks.
Refuse collector
Car accident ruined by back
Thank you
No pain generally but it's slowly going to paralyze me
A freelance writer but can't find any book publishing companies.
You can still pursue those jobs and for me it was a marine biologist could do it cause I would never knowingly swim with sharks or killer whales
Me either
SO something much happier than homicide, I wanted to be an animal conservationist or go into the Amazon or Costa Rica Rainforest and find new species.
President of planet Earth :P
Why? Because Earth is not united yet.
ha! xd
You’re even younger than me. You could still pursue those jobs.
Professional wrestler. I have neither the body nor the overall health for it. And seeing how young wrestler keep dying it's probably a good thing i didn't.
My dream job was to work in “Only fans” but unfortunately I have one eye, they didn’t approve my application
