I periodically see news articles about genius children, some with ages in the single digits, who graduate from high school early.

Usually, graduation from high school is a right of passage into adulthood. But the vast majority of high school graduates are around the age of majority anyways.

I just feel a genius 8 year old may be intelligent academically, but social and emotional maturity develops with age. I still wouldn't expect an 8 year old to be allowed to drive, consent to sexual activity or marriage, or be allowed to sign a binding contract. I still wouldn't allow an 8 year old to attend classes with adults in college or be a roommate to an adult. It doesn't seem right.

So then, what would an 8 year old high school graduate do with his time then?

Are they male or female?

Yes, I know the Marines are technically a branch of the Navy.

Its grad season. My school days are loooong over but i know there's lots on here who still go. Are you graduating? Or anyone you know graduating?

So the other day I got invites from my university for a Brand Development role and an Event marketing role.

2. I’m really good at video editing and making media for social media.

I’m not really worried about the interviews, I’m confident I can land at least one of the jobs. The problem comes when my brothers think I’m wasting my time since I did a degree in Creative Computing (Gaming) and now to them seems I’m not using that degree just to get trapped in a 9-5.

I’ve been applying to game related Jobs since August 2023, improving my resume and portfolio but I’ve only ever gotten 2 interviews and never heard again from either. I’ve probably applied to 500+ jobs by now, so I was so happy I got an offer for two interviews as part of my universities new graduate scheme. My plan is to work for the university whilst improving my portfolio and apply to game related marketing jobs to show I have experience.

But my first older brother I texted this about says this I’m going to be wasting my time and it’s a trap that’s going to keep stuck in that job. It’s not worth it because it only pays £25,000 per annum. For a first graduate job that’s pretty good in my opinion, yeh it’s close minimum wage but in this economy its harder to find a GOOD job that pays this much especially when your 21. My second oldest brother said pretty much the same thing but, that I need to value my time into my portfolio rather than chase money, which is not exactly what I’m doing, like I said I can earn whilst building my portfolio. I will say he’s is worried that I keep changing my mind about what particular what I want to do, whether its game concept art, vfx or UI, but I’ve been applying to all sorts of roles and have gotten nowhere so I don’t think I can be too choosy because who knows when an opportunity like this can happen again.

Thoughts?

Studies show that we tend to overestimate our contribution to anything we do. We often rate ourselves much better than we are.

I am curious to know how much. And if it's by a huge margin, then should self evaluation of any form be justified. Or any form of self evaluation is completely useless and we should only consider how others assess us. But that's a question for another day 😂

I started my journey as a software engineer on December 01, 2018 and since then I have switched 3 companies. In each company everyone says that you are intelligent and know how to get things done.

This time, I am thinking of starting my own IT company but what is stopping me is the liability of bills that I have to pay each month.

I know if I start my own firm, then I can easily pay the bills maybe I won't be successful today but tomorrow I will be.

Should I continue towards my dream of starting a company or should I work as an employee?
