So far I have posted two Mytakes on movies and two Mytakes on music. Now it's time for a Mytake on video games. I know there are so many platforms to choose from and by sticking to modern consoles I am going to make some people upset. But I am finding that the higher quality the game the better and more fun it is with the girl character. So let's get started. and this might have a slight preference towards the horror genre with half of the titles leaned in that direction, just as a heads up. Again this is not a top ten and I forgot in my last mytake to post your favorites as well. I am also going to label the systems but they might be on other system too
1. What Remains of Edith Finch (2017) PS4
This is such a beautiful but short game. and throughout most of it, you are technically other characters. But you are Edith a girl that is pregnant and goes to her old family home to learn more about her family. The narrative at times is told through words showing up on the screen which is an awesome effect. There are so many places to explore and you never know what to expect next. It is such an imaginative game and it really is inspirational.
I suppose one of my favorite parts is when you are in a comic book and moving inside of the comic strip. Such a cool effect and idea!
2. Clock Tower 3 (2002) PS2
I've never played Clock Tower 1 or 2 but I really want to. This game is so unique and there is so much going on in it. It starts out like a haunted house game then takes back in time to save ghosts then it takes you back to the house, you gain powers to fight the enemies. With a final showdown to stop this portal from opening. If I remember correctly, it has been a while since I played but it is a really strange journey and plot but that's what makes it fun. I also get to cheat like crazy using my code master or game shark disc for the ps2.
3. Beyond Two Souls (2013) PS3
This game is so well done and is so rich and deep in terms of story telling. First, you got Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe in lead roles in the game. But what makes it fun is going through a girls life up to adulthood. The game places you into different ages at different times but it so fun to be a teenager and little girl during certain parts of the game. The game is also very detailed so you feel like you are really controlling Ellen Page which feels weird but so much fun. The story also involves the supernatural with Ellen sharing her body with another soul. They go and fight different ghosts and use their powers kind of like in an X-Men fashion. Overall, it is a beautiful work of art that is and was a pleasure to play.
4. Until Dawn (2015) PS4
So this game does not feature a female lead but inter switches between characters that become the leads for a short period during gameplay and they all take turns but they all get at least a couple of sections of the game. and it features Hayden Panettiere, Peter Stormare, Rami Malek and Nichole Bloom from the TV show Superstore. With Hayden getting a lot more moments than most of the characters next to her male counterpart. But it all involves choices, you can have everybody survive or you can have everybody die. you can save only the girls. It's all up to you and it based on the choices you make in the game! It's like starring in your own Horror movie.
5. Heavy Rain (2010) PS3/PS4
This game does not feature a female lead but it does give you a lot of time controlling Madison's character but there are various characters that are used. Still her character is pretty interesting and note worthy. Especially the bonus feature which allows you to use Madison to explore a serial killers house attempting to hide and not be caught. The whole story is really fun and unique. It keeps you guessing right till the very end. All the characters also have a interesting flavor to them which makes them fun to play. But there is a glitch or Easter egg were you can actually see Madison completely nude which is crazy for a video game. The game also uses her to get information but she has to do a kind of strip tease to get it. Kind an interesting choice but it does add to the games grittiness.
6. Resident Evil (1996-2015) PSX/PS3/PS4/Gamecube/Wii/Xbox One/Xbox 360
This is one of my favorite games of all time! I am going to admit it! This could be a top ten consideration for me. It is the little guy and/ or girl taking down the big corporation. You are the peons, the expendable ones that are stuck in a nightmare that you have to escape. It is a bitter sweet series because no matter how much of the corporation you take down it keeps coming back. In different forms and different strains. It is fun to collect all the weapons but it is tough trying to keep up with your health. You have to be smooth and careful when dealing with the monsters found in the game. Thankfully most of them are slow mindless zombies but some can be red with anger and you don't want to deal with them, no sir. But you chose which character you want to be Jill or Chris. So it can be a game with a strong female lead at your choice. But the puzzles are fun and the gameplay is great. It is also fun to see the detail of all the areas. Plus it is always a treat to unlock new costumes. There was a lot of love and time put into making this game and you can see it.
7. Life is Strange (2015) PS3/PS4/Xbox One/Xbox 360
This is a game with a lot of emotion and a lot of heart. It is another game where you make choices for the character. But it is also a game where you can play with time and change it. I have not played the game all the way through yet but I know it is a fantastic game. With the second one already out it makes me want to finish the first. I remember buying a copy on the Xbox 360 now I have a PS4 copy so I am going to have to start for the beginning again. But it is a really hard game to play because of all the emotion it has. But it is really good game none the less.
8. Lollipop Chainsaw (2012) Xbox 360/PS3
Now I know what you are thinking. This is so sexist! How could you pick this but before I continue.
Girls have embraced it in cosplay! She is a strong character, not a weak one. In fact, that's what makes her so good! She is very self aware of her character. She knows her stereotype and she plays off of it the entire game. It's not just the crazy outfit and awesome rainbow moves with her saw, it's her character that brings the game to life. It has a great arcade feel and it crazy fun to play. It is like a brawler with a zombies and a chainsaw. What more could you ask for? and the game is stuffed full of awkward and fun humor to boot. It is also involved the talent of James Gunn who was responsible for the Guardians of the Galaxy.
9. Tomb Raider (2013) PS4/PS3/Xbox One/Xbox 360
I am really glad they did this. Tomb Raider was starting to have the fate of Sonic the Hedgehog. Making game after game of flops. This reboot really needed to happen and brought this franchise back to life! This really reminds me of the new Batman games where you level up. It makes it fun to collect more points for upgrades. But one the major points this game is so different is that Lara is much more real in this game. You can relate with her character. She has to become the Tomb Raider and it is fun to travel with her as she discovers her new stronger self. The challenge caves are also a blast, they are so much fun to do. To tell you the kind of radical game it is, you start the game in a pit of blood and have to march through it to get out. Given its the only part with that much gore, it really starts the game off with a punch. You also deal with the supernatural in this game which also adds to its fun.
10. Alien: Isolation (2014) PS3/PS4/Xbox 360/Xbox One
This is a continuation of Alien through Ellen daughter Amanda. But it is so good and it is really scary. It can get frustrating at times but it is worth the gameplay. It is also fun to see the death kills before your kill screen. But it really brings you back into the series. and honestly I enjoyed this ten times more than the new Alien movies they have been pumping out. I would rather see a movie version of this. This is piggybacking off of other games like BioShock that broke the mold and paved the way for a whole new world of games but it is fun to see the official Fox Brand on this game as Dead Space was probably inspired by Aliens but did not have the logo.
