10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

Alright, I looked through many lists to jog my memory and some plucked from the memory banks and here it is folks, magic music from a magic music man :)

To start this is for those that grew up with the Disney Channel, maybe secretly still watching it :) half of my songs come from it :)

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

But I am not looking at those old songs :) I am looking at the retakes on old ones :)

1. Magic - Olivia Newton John/Meaghan Martin (1978)

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

But really, I love Meaghan Martin's :)

It has a great feel and rock theme to the new one. Don't get me wrong I love the old one but I love the new one slightly better.

Come take my hand
You should know me
I've always been in your mind
You know that I'll be kind
I'll be guiding you
Building your dream
Has to start now
There's no other road to take
You won't make a mistake
I'll be guiding you
You have to believe we are magic
Nothin' can stand in our way
You have to believe we are magic
Don't let your aim ever stray
And if all your hopes survive
Your destiny will arrive
I'll bring all your dreams alive
For you
I'll bring all your dreams alive
For you

2. Do you believe in magic - The lovin' Spoonful/ Aly and AJ (1965)

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

I love the original song but the remake has a little extra happy poppyness and its girls this time around.

Do you believe in magic?
Come along with me
We'll dance until morning, just you and me
And maybe, if the music the right
I'll meet ya tomorrow
So late at night
We'll go a dancin' baby then you'll see
All the magic's in the music and the music's in me, yeah
Do you believe in magic? Yeah.
Believe in the magic in a young girl's soul
Believe in the magic of rock n roll
Believe in the magic that can set you free
Oh, talkin' bout magic

3. Magic - Pilot/Selena Gomez (1974)

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

Reoccurring theme, extra pop and extra kick. Great original song and fun new take. The original just makes you feel good and it just has a great flow and the new one gives it a different treatment but the same vibe.

It's magic you know
Never believe it's not so
It's magic you know
Never believe it's not so
Never been awake
Never seen a day break
Leaning on my pillow in the morning
Lazy day in bed music in my head
Crazy music playing in the morning light
It's magic you know
Never believe it's not so
It's magic you know
Never believe it's not so
I love my sunny day
Dream of far away
Dreaming on my pillow in the morning
Never been awake
Never seen a day break
Leaning on my pillow in the morning light

4. Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf/KSM (1968)

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

Ok, so Both songs are great and it is so cool to finally look at the lyrics because they are fun but KSM gives it a kick and these girls kick a## they have their own brand of kind of punk rock and they just make the song feel so good

I like to dream, yes, yes
Right between the sound machine
On a cloud of sound I drift in the night
Any place it goes is right
Goes far, flies near
To the stars away from here
Well, you don't know what
We can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
Well, you don't know what
We can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Close your eyes girl
Look inside girl
Let the sound take you away
Last night I hold Aladdin's lamp
So I wished that I could stay
Before the thing could answer me
Well, someone came and took the lamp away

Now before the next and final song from this album, I just need to post some honorable mentions because they got all right magic songs it almost seem like it anyway :)

Strange Magic formerly ELO and Every little thing she does is magic formerly sting are also included. 7 classic and great picks, good going Disney!!

5. You Can Do Magic - America (1982)

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

I include drew for effect but I clearly like the original the best, you can just fall into it and get lost in the melody, lyrics and flow of the song

You can do magic
You can have anything that you desire
Magic, and you know
You're the one who can put out the fire
You know darn well
When you cast your spell you will get your way
When you hypnotize with your eyes
A heart of stone can turn to clay

6. Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks (1975)

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

In that video Stevie says "This is a song about an old welsh witch" mic drop

Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night and
Wouldn't you love to love her?
Takes to the sky like a bird in flight and
Who will be her lover?
All your life you've never seen
A woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?
She is like a cat in the dark and then
She is the darkness
She rules her life like a fine skylark and when
The sky is starless
All your life you've never seen
A woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?
Will you ever win?

7. Listen To The Magic Man - Celine Dion (1985)

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

This one is a tough sell, first off, "cough cough" Celine Dion was a singer before Titanic and in 1985 she did this very very not well known song in 1985 from a movie called the Peanut Butter solution

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

It is a upbeat and fun song that helps you relax and unwind and get ready for young Celine, it is a little shocker :)

Listen to
The magic man
An abracaca
Dabra your life's
In cinerama
Listen to
The magic man
A bing bang
A ding dang
And oops
Roll on
Round & round
On & on
Up & down
You are in wonderland
Listen to the magic man
Listen to
The magic man
Got a trick
That's so slick
Disappears just quick as a lick
Listen to
The magic man
A bing bong
A ping pong
And you are off to hong kong

8. Puff the Magic Dragon - Peter Paul and Mary (1963)

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

This is great song; it is so magical but ends up leaving magic left to imagination which is a sad finish one lyric I choose to ignore but it does not change the fact that we control the magic in our lives and we can tell it to go away or keep it and treasure it like Jackie should have done to puff in this song. While it is about imaginary friends, I think the song can mean more than that. and here's how I remember puff the magic dragon.

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

9. The Magic Dance - David Bowie (1986)

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

This one is pretty self explanatory for those that know Jim Henson's the Labyrinth. It is fun to watch and just fun to listen to.

You remind me of the babe (what babe?)
The babe with the power (what power?)
The power of voodoo (who do?)
You do (do what?)
Remind me of the babe
I saw my baby, crying hard as babe could cry
What could I do?
My baby's love had gone
And left my baby blue
Nobody knew
What kind of magic spell to use
Slime and snails
Or puppy dog tails?
Thunder or lightning
Then baby said
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)
Dance magic, dance (dance magic, dance)

10. When you Wish Upon Star - Cliff Edwards aka Jiminy Cricket (1940)

10 of My Favorite Songs About Magic

Ok, so I thought, if any one knows magic its Disney. So what song best captures this magic? When you wish upon a star. But you are like, Johnathan, there is no magic in it. See that is where you are wrong. The song inspires believing in the unbelievable and hoping in something greater than your current situation. It is Disney's anthem and its easy to see why.

When a star is born
They possess a gift or two
One of them is this
They have the power to make a wish come true
When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires will come to you
If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do
Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of their secret longing
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true
When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires will come to you

Ok, GAGgers so let me hear your magical songs and I will leave you with yet another song lyric to finish.

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted....
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
...I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin' might mean takin' chances, but they're worth takin'
...And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
- Lee Ann Womack

  • I really didn't expect there to be that many songs about magic that you could make a list about it. I'm young and don't know any of these songs. I like no good deed from wicked. Sorry, I'm uneducated on songs about magic.

  • The Wizard by Uriah Heep

    "The Wizard"

He was the wizard of a thousand kings
And I chanced to meet him one night wandering
He told me tales and he drank my wine
Me and my magic man kind of feeling fine

He had a cloak of gold
    And eyes of fire
And as he spoke I felt a deep desire
To free the world of its fear and pain
And help the people to feel free again

Why don't we listen to the voices in our hearts
'Cause then I know we'd find we're not so far apart
    Everybody's got to be happy
    Everyone should sing
For we know the joy of life
The peace that love can bring

So spoke the wizard in his mountain home
The vision of his wisdom means we'll never be alone
And I will dream of my magic night
And the million silver stars that guide me with their light
