A look into the band Trendkill!

How are y'all doing?? The crazy metal chick has returned with another take on another band. This has been sitting as a draft for awhile due to life getting in the way, but now I release this beast to the masses.

You may be wondering "hm, is this a Pantera tribute?" Or "i have never heard of these dudes wtf". As a nod to Pantera I'll go ahead and scream *inhales* THE GREATTT, SOUTHERNN, TRENDKILLLLLL!! (because why the hell not). With the first thing, yes, there are Pantera tributes that have such a name like that. there's actually a lot of bands with this name. But the one i speak of tonight hails from the U.K, consisting of grooving thrashing fury. They are certainly newer than other bands i have done takes on in the past. So lets dive into the mosh pit and see what these guys are about!

They started off as an independent band in 2014, and I only say independent because they began playing covers in pubs and things, but then later began seeing their skills improve and went on to creating their own music. This was demonstrated in the early days by bassist Issac Edwards through his YouTube channel "Drunkaa" (originally called "Bad People" among other various names). It consisted peeks into Trendkill, and covers of Cliff Burton bass covers, which he was very spot-on both in sound, and looking like he was Cliff himself reincarnated. He also did vlogs on gaming and goofing about. It's been a long time since he last made a video but it's still hella worth checking out.

Then there's Jonny Stern on the 6 stringer, who found inspiration from the late great Dimebag Darrell, down to guitar style both sound-wise and on his preference of guitar types. I had a chance to ask him once a few months ago about his guitar playing, and he said how he's mainly self taught though he started off doing a few lessons with a teacher. Pretty kick ass, I wish I was a better teacher for myself with guitar lol. Stern also has a YouTube channel under his own name where he noodles around on the guitar, shows demos and live stuff (both from Trendkill and his power metal band, Skyrider).

At the drum kit is Corey Bennett. The dude's been compared to being a second "Philthy Animal" *nods toward a Motorhead poster* for his own form of aggression behind the kit. 'Nuff said.

They started off with a kid on the mic by the name of Jack Milburn. However he did not stay long, as the music did not suit his creative taste, so he left on good terms. By my knowledge there are no songs out with his vocals, if any it's probably stashed away by the band and will in 10 years come up as a "lost song" leaked on the internet lol. Anyway though, this departure brought on a new raging dude, Elliot "Chariot" Bartram, who is mostly considered the true "first", as his vocals appeared on their first EPs and singles: EP One, Asylum, Pull The Plug, and Black Moon (another EP). The way to describe his vocals is it being very forceful, resembling Phil Anselmo but if Phil was a grizzly bear, if that makes sense lol.

Around 2019, a year after the release of Black Moon, Chariot parted with the band and they brought into the spot their friend Ali Lisle, who has been their current vocalist since. On occasion he hits the notes just right where it gives an Anselmo vibe. This is heard well on their song "Obsession", where already the song sounds like a mix of Pantera's "Hollow" and Metallica's "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" in one. Earlier this year Issac parted ways with Trendkill just after the release of some new songs ("Poison The Well", "Blinded By Fate") and just recently another guy by the name of Jordan (last name unknown currently) has taken up the spot as bassist and backing vocals. No new songs have been done yet with his bass skills shown off, but they have already been touring with him.

On my side of things, I've watched all this from the beginnings. Its inspiring watching a band starting off from just a bassist doing covers and goofing off, to becoming an ever growing band in the music scene. About 2 months ago I ordered Black Moon off of Bandcamp, and I could hear a lot of different influences in their music. I could go into talking about the CD itself, but that can be saved for another MyTake if anybody's interested.

I now leave you with "Obsession" and "Pull The Plug". Catch you later fellow headbangers! \m/
