She should have been white because ariel is white. Disney is just virtue signaling to the PC culture we live in today. Next mermaid will be gender fluid demiqueer or some shit.
and the racism keeps growing. Disney = racist against whites. lol. And based on your other replies, you think historical accuracy is needed when playing a real person? So why do you think it was okay for Alexander Hamilton to be played by a black guy? He was literally white. :P
Disney is racist against whites? How so? Also the guy who played him was not a black guy. To be honest I thought he was white when I first saw him. He was also the person who made the play and it has the message to inspire minorities into acting and playwright. Seeing people like you does also help with marketing.
@CocoXD oh so when a "white guy" is replaced by a minority, it's to "inspire" but automatically when a "person of color" is played by a "white guy" it's bad? I see. And I call that a racist view. The end. lol This has gone on far enough. I remember the racist views of people even saying "she ain't black enough" when Zoe Saldana was picked to portray a historical black figure in a movie. And yes, I see intentionally replacing one race with another for "politically correct reasons" racist. The Little Mermaid originated by a Dutch tale. Guess what color those people are? yeah, white. The story of The Lion King takes place in Africa, soooo naturally Disney replaced 99% of them with "black actors for the remake" to be "historically accurate" by their own words. What about historical accuracy for The Little Mermaid? Not important because she was white. Sorry not sorry. THAT IS RACISM AGAINST WHITES.
Well white people have the most representation in the media so yes it can be inspiring to minorities because we are usually seen in a negative light. I don’t think casting for Alexander Hamilton is exclusive to minorities but I understand why they did this for the first run through. Also the little mermaid was an adaptation of the Dutch tale. And you feel oppressed, discriminated against, antagonized, prejudice against you because Ariel is going to be black. Disney is a white company i know that so what’s up. Ya this is probably the white guilt that’s bubbling up from the racism in that past against minorities and that shouldn’t be a factor in casting but do you really feel like this is racist.
@CocoXD yes it's 100% racist. I feel like intentionally replacing one "color of person" with another is an action based on race, and by definition is racist. To me it's like the whole affirmative action thing. Rather than the best "person" for the job getting hired, it's the best "person of color" for the job will get the job. Deciding things based on race issss racist. I have nothing against the person cast as Ariel. I don't know her, but I know why she got the part and it's the very definition of racism.
I see it more as a marketing tactic to get the money of black people because of the rising distaste for live action remakes so I do agree that they were keeping that they were keeping color in mind. To be honest I don’t agree that Disney is racist against whites.
ooo you guys are such full of bullshit lol. Disney characters, especially female, majority of the time have always been white! Go look up every Disney princess movie from 1950 to now and you will see the most of them have been white, beside princess and the frog and mulan. Seems to me anytime a white people aren't being catered to or having their ass kissed, suddenly it's racism or "racism keeps growing". Stop with fake outrage.
Cool! I don't get why people are mad about the color of her skin. It's a fucking mermaid. She has a fish tail. She could be fucking blue and it wouldn't make a difference because it's FANTASY.
She was always thought of as white because it was written by Hans Christian Andersen and the setting of the book is clearly Denmark or at least Western Europe in the 1800's. But really, who cares? It is an interpretation, not a verbatim rendition of the book. I think she'll do a fine job.

This shows how immature and still the racial mindset has not left this society. Y'all fighting over a actress who will be playing a fictional character.. I can not fathom how many brain cells y'all have left to think with if you are this stupid to fight over something as trivial as this. I would say unbelievable, but I just remembered the society we live in, so of course it's believable
@motownplayer2000 every time you watch a movie, a tv show or the news look for repetition. You will constantly see this type of thing you will constantly see the gay agenda pushed you will see the same kind of symbols on screen. It is all a form of mind control and Disney are the worst motherfuckers for this sort of thing. My local news on channel 6 constantly has 666 on the screen. Disney is known for being sick and pushing agendas.
Ok. And? Doesn't mean you all have to argue like raving idiots. Smart people understand what's going on, and makes calculated common sense decisions to based off what they see and understand. You said it yourself, everything you watch has an agenda.. so if you going to watch shit that tells you this is what's in Disney and you believe that shit, your being controlled as well... I just don't understand how people that are "adults" will fight over trivial bullshit.. but I guess I'm above that shit, I don't know
I love the idea! But I think Disney did this as a social stunt to profit since they’re seeing a black empowerment rise. It’s all over the internet - the controversy, the people arguing she should’ve been white, etc. they love that stuff which is what makes it kinda sickening. Aside from that I think it’s great, she’s very beautiful for the role and this will boost her acting career. 🥰
@yourfavperson I am a fan of many black actors but this is just casting somebody for not being white. Look at everything Disney does these days. Look at the channel ABC. All they do is push anti white stuff or anti straight white man stuff. Almost all relationships on their shows are a black guy and white girl or gay ones. It is the same over and over and over again. It is not realistic at all.
Also, doesn’t the little mermaid have a sequel? Why not make it a trilogy and create an entirely new character who is black instead of compromising the source material as a lazy way to draw in a new demographic? Those are my two cents.
And for fucks sake, you couldn't make princess jasmine arabic, you can't make ariel white, what the fuck is wrong with you? I got a great idea, let's make mogli a little jewish boy! Won't that be nice!
I think It's great.. She is pretty, can sing, and has those long luscious dread locks that can be turned red.. Plus, I first saw her in "Grown-ish" and would like to see her apart from her sister in other projects..
So you like it just so that a minority can fit in a role just to make people fill better and fit some liberal quota. Nothing wrong with a person of any race, or ethnicity being in lead roles. But unlike other previous white lead roles, Ariel's signature look and made her unique was her red hair. A red head. Um, black women don't have natural red hair. She's gonna have it dyed and it's stupid.
The little mermaid isn’t real so it honestly doesn’t and shouldn’t matter. You guys act so entitled! Don’t even realize it. Other races can play different roles. Everything Doesn’t have to be white.
@Chelsdope97 Who, besides YOU, said everything HAS to be white? It's just a bit stupid to have a black person play someone that's been known as white for a VERY long time!! And vice versa!

Why not? I have no sympathy with the haters. It's a movie about a fictional character that isn't even human. Hollywood had been carrying white people to play people of other races since the beginning.

she looks kinda like a mermaid, so good. good for her she has a job, good for her she'll make a few million. sorry for the others that didn't get the job.
Well they forced and made Jesus white in shoes and movies, also his disciples... you all know he was olive to dark skinned, and Arabic... right? Oh, and I remember several movies over the years where there was a white guy going to be portrayed as a Hawaiian war hero in the movie "Ni’ihau." But I don't think it ultimately came out.. yes, y'all getting mad over you do. Didn't hear any white person getting made over that.. this is why this shit is funny. Fighting over stupid shit like a fictional character.. this is why our society is doomed!
@motownplayer2000 Our society is doomed because we tried to mix a tribal people into a civic culture, that couldn't exist with something as salient as ethnic identity. We were naive, that's why our society is doomed.
Who is we? Lol "... tried to mix tribal people into a civic culture..." 🤔🤔 history tells a different story.. more like these people had there own lands and civilizations but got uprooted and invaded by the people you are very much describing. The probably isn't the tribal people, who are the rightful people of the lands, it's the people who forced there disgusting ways unto said people! So nothing you said is actually factual. Either way, I respect your opinion...
@motownplayer2000 "We" alludes to European descendants, which I figured would be understood given the context. If by "disgusting ways" you mean individual rights/ identity/ freedom of speech, and women's rights, then yes... disgusting indeed. It's true, Europeans did conquer just about the entire world prior to the late-modern/ post-modern period, but that has to do with our ingenuity in warfare, superior bureaucracy, and economic system that evolved into one which no foreign (especially backward bush people) system could come close to creating a comparable surplus. Might makes right; there is no moral argument as the people we conquered we still experiencing warfare/ rape/ barbarism of all kind prior to us getting there to use them for higher (or our) purposes. Respect or not, this is FACTUAL.

Would it be okay if a White man was cast as MLK then? lol
how do u know the real colour of mermaids? they're made up lol
and there's a difference between made up characters and being historically accurate 😂 thought u had a good point didn't u?
Just say no and admit to racism. Replacing a White character with a Black one. typical liberal racism.
@yourfavperson I am a fan of many black actors but this is just casting somebody for not being white. Look at everything Disney does these days. Look at the channel ABC. I think the mermaid should be played by a chinese man
you're both so sensitive😂
@Superplex That's a merman. :-))
MLK was a real person... litttle mermaid isn’t... so it doesn’t matter...
This video explains my views the best
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WUsf-4bzNQEAlso, doesn’t the little mermaid have a sequel? Why not make it a trilogy and create an entirely new character who is black instead of compromising the source material as a lazy way to draw in a new demographic? Those are my two cents.
I'm just against Disney doing those live action re-makes as a whole, because it's stupid. I don't really care who acts in them.
Great. I hope Chloe Grace mortez is cast to play the new live Pocahontas
FUCK ME NOT ANOTHER ONE!
And for fucks sake, you couldn't make princess jasmine arabic, you can't make ariel white, what the fuck is wrong with you? I got a great idea, let's make mogli a little jewish boy! Won't that be nice!
Oh wait they already fucked up that movie

natural red hair? is she supposed to have a natural tail instead of legs too? grow up.
True i wanted Ginger Ariel i won't watch this movie #notmyareil
I'm not prejudiced but, couldn't they find a white chick? The cartoon character is white. It'd kinda be like having Wil Smith play Ronald Regan.
regan is a real character, so historical accuracy is needed. this is a mermaid, and race doesn't change her story at all.
Yeah, okay, whatever.
cool

WHO THE FUCK CARESS! ARIEL isn't EVEN REAL THEREFORE ANYONE CAN PLAY HERR..
@Chelsdope97 Obviously, YOU do!! Well, how come no one asked ME to play her?
Try out next time 🙄
I think Ariel should be a ginger like in the cartoon
Why not? I have no sympathy with the haters. It's a movie about a fictional character that isn't even human. Hollywood had been carrying white people to play people of other races since the beginning.

Forced race-swapping 😒😒😒 What if they remade “The Princess and the Frog” about a white princess?
Well they forced and made Jesus white in shoes and movies, also his disciples... you all know he was olive to dark skinned, and Arabic... right? I don't like it for obvious reasons. She don't look anything like Ariel. I won't watch it. They don't respect anything.
