Music: Playlists or Random?

I methodically create playlists like editing a feature film. Came from the mix tape culture.

Playlist with owned music

Playlist on Spotify, Apple Music, etc...

Random owned music

Random on Spotify, Apple Music, etc...

I never listen to a specific playlist on spotify, so i listen to an album or play the songs of a band on shuffle.

Only sometimes when i listen to just a new single i keep listening to the songs spotifiy plays at random after that.

Weird, I guess cuz I’m type A batshit crazy I methodically edit any playlist I listen to. And only listen to them.

May be an age thing... Even when MP3 and Playlists with WinAmp and others started to emerge i never started doing them, but rather made a CD and played it on shuffle.

And MC Mixtapes i am too young for it. I had lots of MCs as a child, but mostly audio books and no music.

Yes, but only after the whole hype was almost over. I never tinkered around with Limewire or stuff like this.

My Spotify consists of my own "best of" playlists from artists I like, as well as several mixes of various artists that I created for different moods, basically.

How customized is your best of playlist? Is it more just playing the random fave songs or do you like a trajectory of sound?

My artist playlists are just my favorite songs by them in chronological order. My mixes of various artists are based on sound and mood. That usually means that most of the songs in a mix of somewhat similar genres, but not necessarily. I have a summer mix for instance, that has very different songs on it. Some of them most people wouldn't even perceive as summer songs. It's extremely subjective.

That’s interesting. I have playlists for moods and times of year. Activity playlists, Exercise playlist, etc.

Yeah, times of year kinda go hand in hand with some of my moods. I also have a mix that I can only listen to in winter or autumn. Some music just isn't made for the summer. And some music just isn't made for the cold months. But I don't have mixes for activities. Maybe because I usually listen to music while going from point A to point B.
