I get that he won in a violent and probably unhonorable way, but he did win in official combat against T'Challa. Isn't that all that's required since it was deemed legal for him to fight for the title?

Yes killmongor is the rightful leader. Unless "BAST" say otherwise. I really hope they go more into the magical side in the future.

But he was ultimately defeated and was thrown from a waterfall to his apparent death. If the other tribe hadn't healed him, he would have died. He didn't yield, but I am not sure he had the ability to when he was being carried to the edge of the waterfall.

He got some help so that’s true but alive is still alive so I see the duel as ongoing throughout the movie. But we could say that killmonger won if we don’t allow cheating like help from others
