Back when they used to be popular and well-liked, who was your favorite American Late Night Talk Show Host?

I watched this YT video and it inspired this question.

For me, it's a tie between Conan and Ferguson. I personally liked Ferguson the most and he was my favorite, but I think Conan is the GOAT. This was back in the 90s and 2000s of course. They all kinda went to sh*t 2013 onward.

I used to like Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno (still to like him though).

JImmy Fallon was, I thought, at least trying up to a certain point. Then he did that stupid creepy Christmas vaccine music video with Megan You Stallion (intentionally getting her stage name wrong) and Ariana Grande.

Stephen Colbert is absolutely intolerable, as are Trevor Noah and Jimmy Kimmel.

You didn't mention, as he's less known now Dick Cavett, as he used to bring on public figures, but often have intellectual philosophical conversation & debate on [often controversial] issues... if he even tried this with today's public figures, he'd near always have an emotional child screaming about how other "idiots" need to realize they're correct, often making little effort to understand or regard the issue with any importance beyond their beliefs being asserted, often on basis of ignorance, as correct... you'll rarely find anything like this today, ether in media, or real life.

Compare this to what how Colbert or The View hosts act - agree or disagree with the topic/conclusions, this is what real discussion looks like - modern talk shows demonstrate what 5-year-olds who never emotionally mature, but are given massive amounts of money & power, but little intellect (ability to critically reflect/analyze an issue) look like.

I liked Jon Stewart, and I liked Stephen Colbert on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, but not so much on The Late Show.
Honestly, the rest are all absolutely awful - they're not remotely funny, they're not capable of holding an interesting conversation, and they're not humble enough to allow their guests to be the centre of attention.
Michael Parkinson and Terry Wogan were in a different league altogether.

I picked G but it is because of the picture of Jay Leno. He was the best. I like Greg Gutfeld now. He is one of the few people on TV that can still make me laugh out loud.
