I will say he's better than most, but he doesn't top Hank Hill. He is certainly better than Peter Griffin though.

He had his good moments, but let's not forget that he is a major alcoholic and routinely tries to strangle his son when he gets angry at him. That is not a good father. He has some stuff he needs to work on to be a "good dad". Now Hank Hill was a great example of a good dad. Yeah, he would drink with his buddies, but he was not violent. He would get mad and blow up, but it was with good reason. He tried very hard with Bobby. He was there for him and provided for him, but he also made sure to curb any BS. If Bobby got in trouble, he was all for teaching him the consequences. He had good parenting skills for how to deal with Bobby's shenanigans. I think it was funny in the one episode when Bobby got to "punish" Hank for a change and he chose "no lawn mowing" haha
He represents the boomer Dad. He's able to support a family on a single wage, left high school with a diploma and is able to get a good job. Homer is everything that's wrong with the boomers and those that followed had to pay.
The abusive alcoholic who frequently STRANGLES his own child? No. No, he's not. He was a parody of the old-at-the-time "Father knows best" sitcom dad who was calm, rational, and so relentlessly genial you'd inevitably suspect drugs were involved.

Homer provided and tried his best.
I want to note that Homer Simpson was Nuclear Reactor Operator which makes an average of $68,000 a year and lived in Springfield Oregon with sales taxes and moderate level of cost of living. That's how he was able to afford the list mentioned in the post.
Typos galore...
1 a Nuclear Reactor...
2. No sales taxes..
i would say that he's probably using the ressources he has to the fullest extend in order to be the best father he can be. which i guess would make everyone a good father. but in the grand scheme of things, he's obviously so flawed, that all ressources he has don't add up to much and he's still a bad father. but at least his children have food on the table and a roof over their head, which i guess is something xD
Yes, i got most of my parenting skills from watching Homer Simpson.

He's there every day. Which makes him better than a whole bunch of parents. He loves his wife and provides a platform upon which she lives and raises the kids.
Is he a good father? Not textbook. But you can see the fundamentals, right?
Yes!
Specially with Maggie.
he's got the genuine love of his children and wife...
not all the parents in real life can say that... unfortunately, lol
He has his ups and downs but he loves his kids and has a lot of patience with them considering they haven't shown any signs of growing up in 30 years.
Better than Stan
If we translate it to the real world? No, of course not.
Homer Simpson's a better father than most of those deadbeats.
It's a children's cartoon character.
It is a cartoon not real
nope. George Jetson is better
Yeah. I do.
