Thoughts on Gwen Stefani as a singer?

I remember when I was in high school and she first came out with No Doubt, and talking with other dudes at my supermarket job and being like “have you seen that band with the hot blonde singer in mailman pants with a wallet chain?”😂 I think they dropped Just A Girl, then Spiderwebs, then Don’t Speak, as their first singles, in that order. Don’t Speak was their first slow song that showcased her raw singing voice, the other songs to that point had louder accompaniment by instruments, or she was singing energetically. I thought she was pretty good. Would I put her with Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion? No, not as a pure singer. But her voice is fairly powerful and has a unique quality to it. The overhyping might just be that she’s still a prominent personality. She always seemed to be pretty cool, so maybe that’s helped her hang around, and being a looker doesn’t hurt either.

I remember first time I heard No Doubt back in the day. I liked her when she was with them. I stopped listening to her after she went solo. I liked No Doubt not really Gwen.

I like her weirdness but the girl can't sing. She was a better rapper in Luxurious 😂 But i’ll always love her songs Cool, Let Me Blow Your Mind, Whine it Up, 4 in the Morning, Luxurious, Make Me Like You, Rich Girl, What You Waiting For, Hella Good, Hey Baby, and Its My Life

Decent range and can sing without autotune but I find her singing kind of nasally.

She can sing,. I just don't like her voice much. It is the same with some other vocalists I have heard. One girl had a better than five octave range, but I did not like the timbre of her voice. I have about the same vocal range as Paul McCartney, but my voice is far better suited to harmony than lead so I've been in bands where I blew the lead away in range, but he just had a much better lead voice.

I definitely agree with what you said. She had a few great songs that made it onto the radio and were a hit. Adding to this, I had no idea that she’s 53 , she looks great but i thought she was at least in her late 20’s early 30’s.
