I'm trying to find some fun movies to watch. I like action, comedy, sci-fi, fantasy, and some romcoms.

Let's see: off the top of my head, I'd suggest...

-"Comfort and Joy" (the Bill Forsyth one, not the Hallmark one; I haven't seen the latter). It's by the same guy who made Gregory's Girl, and is one of my favorite Christmas movies, though it took me freaking forever to find again, it's currently up on the Internet Archive.

-While I'm mentioning both "movies no one else seems to have heard of" AND "Christmas movies", there's "The Christmas Toy", which is what you'd get if Jim Henson made Toy Story.

-Interstate 60. Bob Gale (who co-wrote Back to the Future) takes a crack at a road trip movie along a highway that doesn't exist. It's one part mythological self-reflection, one part road-trip comedy, and one part Phantom Tollbooth. It has some big-name actors in it, but for some reason, it feels like no one's ever heard of it, which is unfortunate. The cover art, unfortunately, does NOT help; there are some mature, and even sexual, themes in the movie, but it's not a damned porno.

-Airplane. This one you've probably heard of, but you're young enough that you may not have seen it. If you haven't, fix that. If you have... watch it again. Zucker, Abrams, and Zucker were the KINGS of comedy, and those fools in 2000 just pretenders to the crown. The rapid-fire wild zing of jokes, subtle, blatant, and BOTH is just unbelievable. And it has a (very brief) topless scene in a PG movie, so hey, bonus points for that.

-The Stunt Man. This one's a Chinese puzzle of a movie about a fugitive who hides out on the set of a kinda-crazy movie director. It blends the line between fiction and reality, and is definitely not a movie for everyone, but is worth checking out if the idea interests you. I'll add only that the star said of the movie "It wasn't released; it escaped".

-Synechdoche, New York: for when you liked "The Stunt Man", but wonder what if it was less about mind-bending and more about art?

-Fido. A heartwarming semi-post-apocalyptic comedy about a boy and his pet zombie. That one sentence alone will tell you if it's for you or not.

-They Live. A mixture of comedy, sci-fi, and social commentary, with the world's most protracted fist fight thrown in. Bonus points for being the origin of a popular pre-battle scene one-liner.

-Dolemite. A movie that is not good, but manages to succeed at being a parody of itself, and features martial arts "acting" that makes William Shatner look like Bruce Lee. It also features a "fuck you" "no, fuck YOU" exchange that takes more than twenty seconds, in case you thought the fistfight in "They Live" was too brief.

-Moon. This movie (which will be better the less you know about it going in) shows that you can have excellent science fiction without big explosions, massive special effects, or huge casts.

-Hopscotch. A 1980 spy comedy movie starring Walter Matthau which is enjoyable in its own right, but especially because the soundtrack is also an elaborate running joke on musical themes between Mozart and Puccini. I'm sure it spooked the hell out of the people I was first watching it with to hear me laughing uproariously at a scene where a building's being shot up, but in context, it makes sense. For bonus points, if you DO watch the movie, try and figure out how the HELL it managed to get an "R" rating.

-Murder By Death. I think this was originally a play, but the 1976 movie adaptation has Alec Guiness, Peter Falk, Peter Sellers, David Niven, and a bunch of other all-stars doing a delicious send-up of the murder mystery/detective genre. If you have ANY interest in that field of art, it's totally worth a watch; the absurdist humor is downright GLORIOUS.

I'm not 20 years older than you so I don't think I've seem much you have not but I think the jungle book is good. I watched a snippet of it at a Christian event in my first year of university and I thought it was amazing. It's on my future buy list. I have a list of books I want to buy and a list of movies I want to buy and my list always grows faster than my money does.
