It's stupid as fuck and too preachy!! When are they gonna make a white Daffy Duck and a black Elmer Fudd? Why is it okay to make this white character black but, it's NOT okay to show Little Inki or ANY of the other black characters made back in the `40's? If Velma's REALLY black, why does she still talk, dress and act like a white chick with a dark tan? When is Popeye gonna start dating a black Olive Oyl?
Not black Velma she is Indian because Mindy herself is Indian
Well, what's the difference? The character was created as a WHITE girl so, why not just LEAVE HER as a white girl? If she's supposed to be a Hindi, why doesn't she have an accent?
Truth be told Mindy Kailing is super self hating about being Indian, majority of her characters and shows is being a vindictive brown skin girl who honestly despises being Indian while constantly simping over white guys.
Sounds like she's got some mental issues that need dealt with. Making a cartoon like this won't help.
Considering who gave it to her I wouldn't put a ton of stock in the value of it.
Not that she's done anything worthy of a presidential award though as I said rewards like those don't really hold much value these days.
I personally think their are better actors and actresses who should have deserved that award
It was not good.
I stuck through it just to see if it got good, but it was just too much forced humor that didn't hit at all
Yes plus most of the outdated pop culture references and the constant meta commentary was just so bad
She wasn't even funny in other shows so i wouldn't have much hope for her badmouthing on a cartoon.
Well she won a presidential award let that sink in to your head.
A lot of unfunny comedians and bad actors win stuff all the time. Its surface level at this point
Yep sounds like a participant award
That one asshole who is constantly describing Velma black honestly sounds super racist.
I never thought he was. I just think his comment was extremely ignorant. I've always been cool with him so i just wanted to point out that i didn't think it was okay what he said. But only he can control his mindset so i dont have anything else to say to him on the matter
You try to be understanding and people punk out and block before you can respond to their dm. As i was saying spacegnome because we both know you can just sign out and read my response here, β My religious beliefs had nothing to do with what i stated and i actually somewhat stood up for you in another part of the post despite being disappointed in your stance. I also stated you wouldn't change your mindset and neither would i. So no i meant exactly what i said and to me you were wrong in that moment. It had nothing to do with what the other two said to you. And thats how i feel on that. End of discussion for meβ. Now iβll happily block back. This is why my cover photo says what it says. People show their true colors everyday.
How can people tell you to read the full thing when i did but they didn't lmao. Laughable af
Yes I don't understand what happened I never done anything to him he was the one who went at the deep end and stated insulted others but we the one in the wrong to the point he blocked us what a entitled dumbass
And had the nerve to say i was ignorant for saying people i know irl that are Indian or of Latin descent have said i can't be black because i was close to their skintone. I was stating what they said about me. Lmao. I would not say something like that in return especially since a lot of my exes are of that. I dont care about being blocked but i do care about someone telling ne to read the whole thing when they dont themselves. And apparently i only think this way because im not atheist? Like that DM didn't even make sense. I didn't bring up religion at all on the post and would have the same opinion even if i was not religious. Some people just can't stand to be wrong. I admit that i hate admitting when im wrong but i at least hear everyone out. Oh well, none of us owe eachother anything ig so im done with his behavior and gonna get some rest
We all don't like the thought of being wrong but damn that guy was just downright pitty and seem like he couldn't tell the difference between the races. Like I admit they made Shaggy black but Velma wasn't black in the show she was South East Asian if that numbskull couldn't actually get that in his ignorant mind then I clearly won't be surprised if others aren't interested in hanging out with him.

I am sure the recognition is to a body of works and career...
and not to a one, single project
Truth be told all of Mindy's work are exactly the same in terms of storyline.
you could just say you hate the show, and it is fine... everyone else does too, apparently
ever heard of The Office?
Yes I heard of the Office
well, her work as a writer for that series.. and all of Emmy's recognition they got would have counted more for this award, which is for the year of 2021
Nice
Why did they make a black version of her? And why a solo thing instead of with scooby, shaggy, daphne and fred? Why not just make an entirely new character if you are going to redo the entire thing?
So lazy... How hard is it to come up with a new name and new clothing style? Thats the only thing left resembling the original velma.
@Msputiton I didn't assume anything, I looked at the image.
Not that it even matters, they could have made her purple, or gave her laser eyes or ninja abilities, its still just as lazy.
@Msputiton Dark skin = black, light skin = white.
Chinese are white, indians are black, I assumed nothing, I do not consider skin color to be a race and never will.
Either way thats not the point, the point is this is like calling miles morales, eddie brock, or miguel o'hara, peter parker, instead of making them their own characters.
@Msputiton And no I didn't get it wrong.
I'm sticking to my opinion that skin color is not a race.
Genetically speaking, I'm correct, I know I'm not "culturally correct" but fuck culture, I'm defining life forms by genetics, not social structures.
It simple why she did it. She is Indian. She wanted to play the character, and she wanted to identify as the character she was playing.
The real question and point is why does it matter what race someone who has creative and rights chooses to make it. You want velma to be white. Watch the ones she is white. If this crappy show, means so much to you that she is not white, buy the creative rights to it and change her back to white
@Msputiton The show doesn't mean anything to me (scooby doo as a series has been crap since they started adding actual ghosts and monsters) nor do I care what color or race a given character is. You are just hyperfocused on race/skin color, and are ignoring the point.
What bothers me, is that artists and writers are too lazy to come up with their own ideas, and feel the need to copy and edit old ones, but not enough editing is done to be original about it.
As an artist and writer myself, I view it as disrespectful to the original creators.
Imagine if you spent the time and energy coming up with your own franchise, and then someone else comes along and copies it with minor changes. I don't want to buy anyone else's franchise, I'm too busy making my own original ones instead of being lazy.
I don;t think the batman movies were good either, because they do not portray the character's personality well. Do I care enough to make my own batman movie? No. No I do not.
Also as far as the actor wanting to portray the character, its voice acting, the voice actirs in most cartoons almost never resemble the character, and characters should not be changed at the actor's demand, they should follow the writer's/director's/artists' original version. I don't think actors should have a say in the matter. Otherwise the creator's vision is lost when every actor puts in their two cents and changes the whole story and everything in it.
She not black she is south east Asian, they did created Shaggy black, turning Daphne east Asian but they kept Fred a white guy to sorely preach how bad white men are.
@FinalFantasyBro Lmao oh yeah. I forgot Daphne was Asian too. But i do think that was the thing that made the show so bad. It was so focused on making white men look bad, that it was too forced and became boring
Plus it just keeps bringing all these false equivalence like high waisted pants or constantly insulting every single group known to men. If you can bring both the left and right side together to hate something your know you done something wrong because usually conservative and liberal wouldn't usually agree on something
@FinalFantasyBro I'm sticking to my point that dark skin is black and light skin is white, regardless of location or genetics. There are southeast Asians that have dark skin in india and malaysia, and light skinned ones in japan and china, so having skin color represent region or ethnicity is inaccurate. Black and white are not races, they are shades of color in various races.
Anyway, back on point, if the show has the other characters in it, why rename it velma? and why reinvent an already established franchise instead of making a new one?
Also technically is should be called brown and tan, no human is actually black or white like say, bears are.
Because she is executive producer and it is her project and her vision.
If the people was worried about keeping the artist's original vision, they could have not allowed it to be sold.
She created an origin story surrounding velma as the main character, because she liked Velma the most, and executive producer she has the rights and decision. You again assumed she was only the actor.
She is the person in charge of the project meaning it is her vision, and the writer's vision, and this is the velma, and story they envisioned when her company bout all creative rights to a story, meaning the people who owned it agreed to allow her to change it. So still you aren't caring about creative integrity, it is a skin color issue about made up characters.
We reboot movies all the time. How many batman, how many spiderman reboots, and everyone was like cool can't wait. Moment a white character is change it is now ridiculous. Nobody forced the owner to sign away creative rights. They did it.
But you saw a change in skin color, and went. No!!! We can't have this.
Your very first point was i disapprove of them making a white character not white. End of story.
Get over the race, and just talk about the show. If it wasn't a race issue, you would not have brought it up.
You would have went the show wasn't good. But again another person who can't stop thinking about race.
I have yet once gone. The race of a character bothers me. Only people who can't look past skin color complains about that
@Msputiton
1. Joe Ruby and Ken Spears created the scooby doo characters and universe.
2. my problem IS reboots
Than say i don't like reboots. Not why they have to make her blackπ you went straight for skin color.
I know who created it, and it has been sold giving creative rights away. That is how movies work. Once someone either is tired of doing it, or dies the family either keeps creative rights or sells it. Meaning they no longer have creative rights the people who bought it does.
So if they wanted to protect it they would have.
They didn't
Also just because you ignored everything else I said dies not mean skin color was relevant for anything other than continuity, if they made a white virgil hawkins or a female peter quill, i'd think it was just as lazy.
@Msputiton I said "Why did they make a black version of her? And why a solo thing instead of with scooby, shaggy, daphne and fred? Why not just make an entirely new character if you are going to redo the entire thing? "
I listed EVERYTHING different in the photo when compared to the original version, because I hate reboots in general, and thats everything I could see in the image that got rebooted. I have not watched the show, and i'm not going to. But you only saw the first sentence, because you're hyperfocused on race. What about the other stuff I said?
You the one who complained about skin color beint different. This convo would never happened if you didn't worry about her skin color.
Even after me and finalfantasybro moved on from skin color.
You made sure to circle back to it.
To continue it, because you couldn't stop bringing it up.
The skin color convo was over, but you couldn't drop it
@Msputiton because its different, not because it's a given color. I don't keep bringing it up, I made my point, and youkeep insisting on trying to say I meant something I didn't, so I'm stuck repeatedly correcting you, so just drop it already.
The title was velma, which suggested it was removing scooby and the rest (and before knowing about that, I complained about that too), but that didn't even bother you at all.
@Msputiton No I addressed it.
"She created an origin story surrounding velma as the main character, because she liked Velma"
My opinion is thats dumb, if you liked a character, why are you changing the character? changes mean you didn't like it, second, come up with your own ideas, make you're own character. I want this shit not normalized anymore, I don't want to make my own universe just to see a bunch of people steal it to make their own versions. And yes, I get it, it was sold, I don't care, most contracts that sell franchises are predatory in nature and fuck over the original creators.
I'm done having this stupid conversation, blocking you.
Black is not even the actual color of someones skintone. Even βblackβ people are brown. And we come in different shades of brown. Indians and Latinas have assumed im one of them sometimes because of my skintone. This was a super ignorant comment of yours. But your mindset won't change so i won't even waste my time. Hell even βwhiteβ is a shade of tan, peach, etc. You just sounded silly and dont even regret it. So Im gonna just go. Super disappointing
I haven't watched it and I won't watch it either. Especially if it has bad reviews. I'm not surprised by the medal of honor. Anything is possible now... 🙄🙄🙄🙄
I didn't lol those score tv show ratings are horrid
I gave up on it after 3 episodes...
Hate watching couldn't even get me through it, lol...
@sirderpsalot123 lolol it literally has a 1.5 on imdb or something shits horrid look at it hahaha
From what I've read, it sounds like a self insert fanfiction and a completely garbage one at that. The Mindy project before it was really lame and lackluster.
Biden is out of touch with what is important
I've seen clips and I knew that it wasn't worth my time.
It was a 2021 award.
From before Velma was written
