What are some of your favorite star wars media outside of the the main films? This can include books, comics, games, tv series?

The Thrawn trilogy was phenomenal (the fanbase referred to them as "episodes 7, 8, and 9" for a quite a while, and they were a helluva lot better than the ones Disney made); they're worth a read for any fan of the franchise. The CCG, while second only to Magic in popularity... wasn't. It just didn't have the balance or interest factor; it wouldn't've sold nearly as well without the Star Wars name.

But the video games... oh, the video games. The 80's ones were pretty basic; the 10's ones were just sad, but the 90's and the 00's gave us some truly fantastic titles. True, you did have creative misfires like Force Commander, and shallow filler like Yoda Stories, but the bulk of the games were solid, and some outright amazing. Dark Forces broke the mold of being more than a simple "DOOM clone" (as they were called back then) and genuinely made the third dimension a vital part of gameplay, and its sequel Jedi Knight was better in almost every respect.

On the strategy side, Empire at War was a solid descendant of Command and Conquer; it built on the grounds that had been laid by the earlier series very well, much like Dark Forces did for the infant FPS genre, but the earlier Rebellion was even more magical- a game that did strategy in a way no other game before- or since, to my knowledge- ever had. The rebels had to move and hide, knowing that they couldn't stand up to imperial forces in a drawn-out fight, while the empire had to hunt them down while simultaneously maintaining control of their worlds- they didn't have the rebels' political savvy, and relied mostly- not completely, since even the empire had its limits, but mostly- on armed oppression to keep planets in line. Sadly, the AI wasn't smart enough to pose a real challenge; even on the hardest difficulties, actually losing, as either side, required about six times as much time as was required to win, and I never had any human players to play against (my brother thought the game was too slow-paced), but the gameplay itself was tense and fascinating. Bait your enemy with a tempting an obvious prize, left JUST lightly enough guarded to lure them out, then strike them from another angle while they're distracted. Simply amazing.

And we can't forget the vehicular side of things: X-Wing was great, but TIE Fighter was flat-out legendary. Starting out with high-octane dogfighting against a pack of X-wings, with an enemy platform spraying out laser fire at all of you, knowing one tiny mistake could blast you to pieces, but confident in your superior skill and maneuverability, through piloting the mighty TIE Defender, strong and fast enough to take on capital ships alone and win, to the infamous missile boat, created specifically to hunt down TIE Defenders, and concluding with a mission briefing that ended with "In the name of the Emperor, DESTROY EVERYTHING!". That was a GAME, man.

The very last game LucasArts ever made was "Star Wars Kinect", which was advertised (from what I saw) mostly with its mo-capesque DDR segments. To see how far the company had fallen was just heartbreaking.

Most of the pre-disney games were good. Classic battlefront, republic commando, Jedi Outcast, and the Age of Empires 2-based Galactic Battlegrounds strategy game were standouts.

The only more recent game I thought was good was Squadrons, but you need a few friends and a flight stick setup to get the most out of it, and I suspect it's probably got a dwindling community still playing it.

The shows are mostly terrible. Mandalorian season 1 and 2 had decent starts and finishes, but the filler is mediocre at best, and season 3 is very badly written and edited for some reason. Andor is very well written, but is excruciatingly slow at times.

The only future planned show I thought had potential was Rogue Squadron, but it has been cancelled and some inside sources make it sound like it was never really going to be made anyway.
