Movies or series? Constant remakes. Bad plot/no plot. Bad dialogue. Bad CGI. Not filmed on location but pretending it is when the real thing is easy. (example: using LA subway for Washington DC), etc
Characters? Bad acting. Or overplaying the role.
So many things.
A plot that doesn't make sense, or where the characters behave in unrealistic ways bothers me.
Any story that hits you over the head with a MORALITY LESSON drives me away. Subtle messages are OK, but turning real complex problems into cartoons is not
A particular type of character I don't like is the (usually) female lead who demonstrates her worth by beating people up. Xena was great - but its been done over and over and over and over and over. There are much better ways to show personal worth than physical combat.
What kind of protagonist do you prefer? What traits should the character have?
I like a clever protagonist - really clever, not make-believe clever where somehow things work out. Someone who leverages what assets they have to achieve something difficult.
Mulan in the old disney cartoon. Mystique in X-men Days of future past.
As compared with the completely boring Wonder Woman or The live action Mulan
Re-hashes are what I despise the most, and all the sequels that Hollywood keeps shitting out literally decades after the last movie, and trying to bring back the very original cast that is too old at this point. I love Star Wars, but the new trilogy with Finn and Rey was not good.
I also don't like racial reboots - coming from a black man. I don't need to see classic movie characters now in black skin. Instead, original black movies/characters like Black Panther, Creed, Nope, etc. need to keep being made, movies that bear our own ideas and characters, and not ones that are re-vamped to put us in white costumes.
