Smash Mouth singer Steve Harwell has passed away. Did you enjoy their music?

The band was popular for their song "All Star" which was in Shrek. However, it was actually in another movie before Shrek, and bonus points to whoever can name the movie it was first used in (Hint: it was a live action movie adaptation of a cartoon)

Smash Mouth was a local Bay Area band (out of San Jose/Silicon Valley) so I saw them a couple of times before they even had a record contract - once as the "free concert" band at the Santa Cruz boardwalk and once opening for other bands. I saw them a few years later on the Warp tour (I believe) after they'd had their first album out, but before Shrek.

It's very sad to know Steve is gone, but he was unable to manage his grief at the loss of his child. Ironically, the band is the epitome of happy summers.

What’s funny is that I was listening to Smash Mouth at work on the radio. I was jamming along until my team lead mentioned about the lead singer being in hospice and that he’s got only days to live. I was shocked to hear that. But, very saddened he passed.
