Role-playing game, not rocket-propelled grenade.
The Witcher 3 (gameplay on first two Witcher games was awful)
Skyrim
Oblivion
Role-playing game, not rocket-propelled grenade.
Storywise? Planescape: Torment.
Depth-of-mechanicswise? Darklands.
Worldbuildingwise? Ultima VI, or maybe VII.
Overall? I'd say Baldur's Gate 2, or maybe Realms of Arkania.
So I played skyrim the most. Modding makes it replayable. Also free character choice.
Witcher has the best story. What I kinda dislike amout it isjthat you play as geralt. Not that I dislike geralt but I want to play my character in rpgs.
Baldurs gate is probably deserved number one but I haven't played it yet. I have played dnd 5e so the character creation and options are already great.
BG3 is a ton of fun, but I feel it's overrated as it suffers from lack of interesting itemization and DnD rules.
Kind of like how popular Skyrim was despite poor combat (thankfully mods fix this)
Well it is popular for a reason. I just really hate the way AC works (all or nothing) and how janky spellcasting is.
Also, the soundtrack for BG3 is amazing.
It's less of how to get AC, but more of the binary system of it. I strongly feel that armor should give actual damage reduction. It feels bad attacking and missing, rather than even doing a little damage. Or that your heavily armored character has the same defensive layer as your dex rogue or your shielded sorc.
Ironically enough rogue dodge actually behaves how armor should and armor class behaves like dodge should >.>
I feel like leather armor could have 1d4 mitigation/DR and heavier armor having 2d6 or whatever would make it feel less bad. When the game largely is dependent on hits over mitigation, it feels terrible when you don't land a hit.
I can agree with light armor but I feel it fits perfectly with medium and heavy armor. If you dont hit a weakspot you won't damage someone with a dagger against plate. If you do hit a weakspot its not doing less damage.
For dodge you try to evade incomming damage by trying to not get hit. you are not reducing damage you are trying not to get hit and if you still get hit it won't deal less damage.
For evade its more like bracing against impact, shielding your important organs or going with the direction of force to not take the full ammount. Also its still a game so looking for 100% realism is not the goal at all. If you want a game that has more realism it will get much more complicated.
It's less about realism and more about intuitive mechanics. "Evade" generally means to evade damage completely in most instances.
I gotta go with World of Warcraft (vanilla), the og. It was great up until WoTLK in my personal opinion then it kinda lost its charm from then on…
I only played GTA 4... many years ago
