Who wants a BYD EV?

I was getting excited about highly affordable EVs at a China price. But I've decided I will get cremated when I'm dead instead.

It is a bit old but EV car fire fires never disappoint and never grow stale.

Not unless I have no other choice. Not going political here but there are a few reasons I don’t want a EV.

1. If you do the math electric bill would go up more than I pay for gas on average (at the end of the day, isn’t that the first calculation)

2. The price of replacement batteries in a few years will be like buying a whole new car.

3. Have you seen what places they mine for the minerals for batteries look like? Makes me wonder if EVs are really good for the environment after all.

Where I am insurance companies write off EVs for minor bingles because they can't be sure the batteries are OK. Replacement batteries are more than the car was new.

Yes I have seen the mines. Rare earth refining is even worse. It is why every body was happy for it to go to China.

Agree with comments on EV's & environment. It superficially sounds good but go through the whole chain from mine to product to tip and it probably isn't.

These are all my concerns too..
I have an electric motor bike , and its okey for around town , but at first I got charge for free ( external power ) but as soon as you start riding any distance..
Now 100 b - 200 b - going to 300 b month , now thats not much sure , but its getting no diff to say Riding a Honda Click , ( say same price 2nd hand to start ) The click has resale , and can travel as far as one likes , is more substantial ..
I think it may get better , but its going to take longer than we think.

Some people may as you say be happy to let China take all the mining risk, but suppose a future leader (insert name here you want, names and party are irrelevant to my point) makes China mad and they put a massive surcharge on all batteries sold to (insert country here). How would anyone sustain that?

If they tried that one , we ( Australia ) would not sell them the Iron Ore or the lithium that they would need to produce all these batteries , take my bike , the battery in not Chinese , because at this point all the Chinese batteries are still sht..
But , they will be GREAT one day , so I certainly take your point.. Its purely a matter of time till China gets " pissed off " again..
And , they like left governments , thats a fact , its a worry.

Well China has a world monoply in rare earths because no other country wants the pollution of the refining. I think I have these numbers right. There are 900 pounds of rare earth metals in a F35 and 9 tons of rare earth metals in a Virginia class submarine. It has military significance.

I am fairly sure the US gov't is therefore conscious of rare earths and lithium monopolization and is promoting less polluting ways of refining. Australia has about 1/3 of world lithium deposits plus 1/6th largest rare earth deposits so is fairly involved.

It is not just lithium! Also is there enough lithium? It is only 0.002% of the earths crust. Iron aka steel is 5%. There is doubt that we all can have lithium battery cars. Maybe a different battery technology.

China might go broke before they get rich - they are effectively a ponsi scheme with an incipient chance of going bust. Their gov't has printed money for anybody who wanted some. Their civilians invested in apartments that will never be completed and it's real estate sector is hovering on default.

People think all this stuff is " harmless fun " they dont understand the utter destruction caused by the left " She'll be right - Aussies " , No , it won't be right , and these things never get fixed , this is the issue.

Mines going great thus far , and did many more ks today , lithium battery though..
The first one I had I was nervous till I changed from the Chinese batteries..
My friend in China strangely enough last night sent me a picture of a little yellow 2 door EV brand new 10k AUD , but these things really have no resale at all , its just drive em till fcked , so there must be some opening there..

You could re-title as Chinese Lithium Battery fires. How much did it cost to change over the batteries? Disposable cars is interesting concept :)

So , in the first bike the batteries were crazy expensive.. basically the entire cost.
This new one just has one Lithium battery , BUT , you can't take it out to take battery to room to charge for example , like these cars you gotta charge the entire thing.
The cost for the 2nd bike new was 25k baht ( you could buy a great 2nd hand Honda Click for that )
So the economics of it really dont work. Why did I do it? Coz I only have car license here as they want recognise Qld small bike license.
When I get a bike license , I will get a proper ( petrol ) small bike like a " Click " keep the electric for basic around town , and drive a car when required.
