+1 yMCU Thanos had his heart in the right place (I guess), but his plan was completely asinine.
Assuming that everything happens exactly like he intended, the paradise he creates would only last a handful of generations before populations rebound right back to where they were. It would be over in the blink of an eye and would have basically no lasting impact.
More realistically, though, his plan would just create lots of chaos with little benefit. It's admirable that he wants it to be totally random and indiscriminate, favoring neither rich nor poor, but the fact is that not everyone's lives are equal, practically speaking, when they're interdependent like they are in modern society. Airplanes crash without their pilots, children starve without their patents, nations collapse without their leaders... If you lose too many farmers responsible for food, or too many engineers and maintenance workers esponsible for basic utilities, or too many soldiers responsible for security, then everyone dies as a result.
Furthermore, because it's half of all people in the universe, not just half of every city or every planet, some places will be disproportionately affected just by chance. Some places will lose lots, some will lose little, some people will outright go extinct, and others won't even notice that anything happened.
Another really obvious problem is that overpopulation and resource scarcity are not equally big problems for everyone everywhere. Some places might benefit from having fewer mouths to feed, but for people with sparse populations that are already hanging on by a thread, this is guaranteed extinction.
I'm also being generous in assuming that the Snap only affects sentient/sapient life, and that we don't also lose half of all plants, half of all fish, half of all pollinating insects, half of all the microbes that all other life depends on in one way or another, etc. That's a whole other layer of problems.

by the way, I didn't even watch Marvel movies and I still know who he is. The ones who say they don't know him probably still live in an underground cave.
Balance is good..
but you don’t destroy what’s considered “excess..”
you prevent it, so enough will always be enough.
He had ultimate power, and abused it. He destroyed many, and sacrificed his only precious daughter. He took her family. His love for her was always twisted and wrong.
It’s because of his obsession/fascination/attachment for Gamora that he caused her the most pain than anybody. She would’ve been better off neglected from his manipulative ways.

I mean. I think he wronged the other sister nebula a little more.. but I meant taking out 50% of life. Personally I’d only do humans. I’m not gonna lie the whole “double the resources” is kinda BS we humans keep destroying our planet big time. Plus I feel making “more resources” would need to make the earth 2x as big

Yeah I know what you mean about 50%
You agree with him because those who wrote the story and politics will drive this idea. I wouldn’t be surprised if later on something terrible happened where they purposely or subtly killed off “excess” people.
Because “having too much people is uneconomical. It’s impractical. It’s illogical. It’s not beneficial.”
And on and on…
I say prevention is better than cure. No need to MURDER 50%
Or destroy their happiness of once living and being alive, if they had never existed and taken part in the first place.
All the power of the universe within his hand and he chooses to murder like any simple species.
Killing off isn’t brave isn’t smart isn’t helpful.
Destroying isn’t either.
Why not replace his name which some people love and romanticize over it
And instead put the actual word he stood for.
Destruction.
“Is destruction right?”
Forget the glam of marvel
Is destruction ever right?
No. Unless it’s of the very twisted beliefs that talk about destroying others or the planet and good things that already were.
I won’t comment further.

I disagree with it, is all. - +1 y
Update: I understood it was about wiping out 50%. I mentioned his daughter because it’s a big insight into the type of person he is.
He had to kill Gamora for one of the stones and he did that. Period.
He’s such a believer in destruction and 50%, he’s kill off the better half of him and his life. She was better than he ever was. Him doing that to her is one of the big factors of why I dislike him so much. Maybe others mentioned her because of confusion. I just used that as extra evidence and weight in my viewpoint and opinion on the matter.
Not at all, he sacrificed to kill his own daughter and is obsessed with power for destruction 🙄

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yI'm not sure he didn't have unclear motives. I mean he says in infinity wars that he did it to be humane. But in reality he did it for Hela (The Goddess of Death). The movie never really touches that. So he did it for "love" twisted love at that. Because what psycho exterminates a third of the universe as a demonstration of love to thier crush? That's by definition toxic AF!

Yeah good story. Just unfortunate some will twist it over in their minds and think this is actually a side. Something they can stand for and believe in.
Some people joke about the dark side and Star Wars
They try to understand villains
And then they end up upholding what those villains believe
And almost all villains are like Thanos.
He represents them all except not all are as methodical as he.
Not all are mentally twisted. Most get hurt and that’s the driver for their madness.
But almost all villains believe in his core fundamental method:
Destruction.
He destroyed for “balance.”
Others got in the way for him and what he wanted to be perfect.
For other villains they want to destroy the thing that caused them pain. The someone that inflicted harm on to them whether knowingly or not.
Villains’ emotions to traumas are valid, their responses aren’t always valid. Fix problems. Don’t destroy it.
But you’re right. Good film. 🎞️

+1 yHe was like the worst written villain I've ever seen. He was dumber than a box of rocks and not by design.
Eliminate half of the universe's life to save resources? The universe it essentially infinite. How exactly would you run out of infinity?
Just not good content. There are so many more compelling villains in media. Thanos was as interesting as a postage stamp.01 Reply- +1 y
dumb, yes, about infinite universe but can't access it! only on planet. and other villains better yes, the shocking joker versions in dc far better!

10 Reply No. If ever the population grew to large for the earth to feed the population would regulate itself.

like more would starve to death... painfully. thanos better.
That half the population should be killed completely at random? Probably.
