There is so much talk about climate change and shortages of just about everything. Billionaires Bill Gates and George Soros believe that there should be a world population of no more than 500 million instead of 7 billion. Who gets to choose who lives and who chooses who has to die? I won't be Bill or George that get whacked, that I am sure of.

Yes. Thanos had his dumb Malthusian bullsh*t all wrong, because half of all life erased would kill the other half. Hell, half of all PLANT LIFE alone, or half of all bees gone, would kill all human life on Earth. Thanos failed Ecology 101.

Furthermore, all he had to do was double the resources, or make more inhabitable planets in the universe, and problem solved. As people become comfortable, the need for resources would stop, and they would focus on other things, like space exploration or world peace, as we can already see in real world Earth.

Half of all life gone would doom everyone, because life evolved in order to support the people it currently has. It'd be like getting rid of half of your bones and expecting you to still stand upright or be healthy.

Trying to cap the world population is no better than eugenics, and that received a lot of attention back in the early to mid 1900's, too. It was still wrong, no matter how many powerful people endorsed it.

Capping the population doesn't actually solve the problem, anyway. It just delays it. With less people using up finite resources, they'll still run out, just not as quickly. What we need are renewable resources, so that they won't run out.

Maybe one of the 6.7 billion people that would be purged is the one that comes up with a way to make fusion cheap enough to be useful? Maybe one of the others is the woman that figures out a way to run cars on nothing but water?

Kill them, and we might never get to that point.

It is thought that the fusion reactor is just an engineering problem and if governments throw enough money and resources at it it can be developed. But that would put too many people out of business.

I've heard it said that the alarmists are wrong and that in fact we will not continue to grow in population as there are natural balances that come into play.

Many European populations for example are stabilising or dropping, as are other countries, leaving it to emerging nations to demonstrate growth.

I guess we'll see who's right but I'm not sure i'd invest too much stock in self important aging billionaires.

Thanos was definitely wrong. He believed that destroying the human population would solve world hunger, but there is already enough food for every man, woman and child on Earth. The problem is political struggles of exporting the food to people who need it, inflation due to corporate greed and of course wars. There is no shortage of housing or space to live in either. It all comes down to greed from other humans making it difficult to get food and housing to the people who need it.
