Why do people understand that something like toulkien's books are fictional, but they think various bibles or the quran etc are not?

They all have made up creatures, objects, and places.

They all have impossible things, feats, and scenarios.

And yet many people pick one specific work of fiction and zealot over it like its a documentary, while at the same time treating the rest the way a sane mind should (as fiction), including other religious books.

It makes no sense.

What would you even call this sort of self contradictory behavior?

What is it about one fantasy book over another that you choose to believe it's tales are real?

There is no more reason to believe the bible than there is the hobbit.

I bet that even the author of the first version of any religious tome intended it to be taken as fictional entertainment, just as most authors do.

Moreover, most religious tomes have a lot of contradictory statements/plots/continuities and are written poorly. And ignoring that, if true, would damn/threaten the reader, so they aren't even the most "believable" or enjoyable works of fiction, and yet people hold them up as some sort of gospel. When in reality they are just bad quality fiction.

Pure insanity I say.

Even out of all the religious tomes, the most popular to buy into are typically the worst ones.
Its almost like a reversed critic mentality.
