1 yare you asking us about how you feel?
Don’t think you meant it that way….. But is this a real question? Because you’re one day older than yesterday, you “feel like” you should read books? Books in general? I am beyond confused and weirded out by this question tbh.
Ok look, I’m not trying to be a dick here, i’m really not…. But if English is your first language, then I’d respectfully suggest beginning with some very easy reads.
Tbh, I’m saying this because of the awful English used in your question.
“Suggest me” is something that someone would only say when asking someone to recommend themselves…. Like if my employer is hiring and my friend says “hey can you suggest me? I need a job!”
Then i think you’re making a statement that you feel like you should start to read books….. or maybe you’re asking us if you should start to read books?
If it’s the first one, no?
If it’s the second, change the whole sentence, or leave it, replace the? with a comma, and add “what do you think?”(actually tbh i don’t know if it’d be proper English to use a comma followed by my suggestion, but it’s at least close enough!)
I’m not someone who even did very well in English in school…. Im clueless about all the rules and what words are categorized as…I just read what i’m wanting to say and ask myself if it makes sense…. I think many people would be surprised if they just took a minute and thought about what they were typing and how it sounds🤷♂️
Soooo, yes you should read. Far as the medium goes, whether it’s books, online, articles etc etc it really doesn’t matter imho00 Reply

If its not since school , and people want you to start with Jane Austin and Shakespeare? I think that would put you off , I'd maybe keep it simpler than that..
I have Jane Austin P and P here , had since 16 years old , still never completed it.

1 yWhat genres do you think you'd enjoy?
I mostly read fantasy, romance and psychological thrillers.
If you want some easy romance try Coleen Hoover, she's not an amazing author but they're easy to digest books.
Terry Pratchett books are great fantasy novels that aren't difficult reads. If you're interested in fae/fairies then A Court of Thorns and Roses and Fourth Wings series may interest you (these do have sexual themes)
Some great psychological thriller books are My Dark Vanessa (a mentally hard read about an intimate relationship between a young teen and an adult), The Silent Patient (Murder mystery with a mute character), Behind her eyes.

It's great that you recommend politically/ideologically heavy books to someone who is about to start reading for the first time at the age of 30.

@HoldingtheSword the list is in no order. The ft has a wide range on genres that and have just released their list of the year. Im not forcing anyone to read the books but as a 21 year old i read these books.

Ah yes of course I understand you you are an intellectual

@HoldingtheSword Shakespeare? we could just suggest watching books adaptations with subtitles on, its similar to reading the book.

@molonski2 i suggested the ft reading section, it has a range of books. It was just a list of my favourites. Also because they may not read books often, doesn't mean they don't read in everyday life.
If my list is of interest, you can always get the book and the audio book to follow along as you would during group reading in a class. You dont need to reduce the quality of a book if out of practise. Reading a poor quality books won't help the want to start or even to continue reading. Just my opinion.
I have a wonderful unofficial stepdad as i call him. He used to read books (to check for bad language) then give them to me to read. He's the reason i read, my school was one of the worst in my area.

What are you into?
I studied literature for a few years and I gotta say children's/ YA books can be quite the read, if you're looking for fiction. We did entire analyses on those and it's surprising how layered they actually are.
The Brothers Lionheart was something else; Can You See Me?; A Natural History of Dragons; When the Moon was Ours; Jane Eyre...
Though I personally really enjoy Dostoyevsky, Dickens & (more recently) Child too.

1 yWait, are you trying to catch up on all of the great literature you were supposed to read when you were younger? or are just looking for books to read that are entertaining as an alternative to show/films/other forms of entertainment (not that some of the classics aren't engaging)?

Seriously, you're only just about to read books? What sort of stories do you like? What films? TV series? Try one of the books that inspired them.
If you like, for example, Bond films, try one of the original books; they're very different (and very much "of their time"), but short enough to not be intimidating.

Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yI don’t like reading so I listen to a lot of audiobooks. To me that’s much easier cause I can listen to them while I drove, while I work out, in bed or on breaks at work. There’s a lot of times I have 10-15 minutes to listen to books. Most everything I listen to is financial. A lot of books I enjoy listening to are by Richard Kiyosaki.

u 1 yIt depends on what kind of stories you're interested in. Treasure Island is a good classic. I liked HG Wells' The Time Machine (plan to read War of the Worlds soon). I'd like to read more adventure/swashbuckling.

Such as Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility.

1 yTry young adult fiction. It's really good literature and actually fun to read. Don't make it a chore like scrubbing the floors or washing out the hog pen.

I really have no idea what sorts of books you're looking for. Can you narrow it down a little?
