What’s the best trope for eliminating the cell phone option in horror movies?

Horror movies always require the suspension of disbelief to some extent. The prevalence of cell phones changed the game entirely though. We can pick up our phones and call emergency services any time of day or night, almost anywhere on the planet. Plus we can record evidence to show people that we really did see a werewolf and we’re not just tripping on ‘shrooms. Ell oh ell!
In order to help viewers necessarily suspend enough disbelief that they don’t pull away from the story, a number of tropes have been designed. The obvious and easy one is “no service”. It’s usually a rural area and we get the exposition early that nobody has service, but it’s okay because we’re camping! Disconnect for the weekend!
Period horror films are a good way to go. Way back in the day when you only had landlines and all the monsters knew how to cut the line to the house. Clever ghouls, the lot. I recently noticed another trope in which characters end up giving up their phones for a variety of reasons, or sometimes they’re stolen.
What are some other tropes that make it easier to believe victims can’t just call the police and take pictures or video of the supernatural entities hunting and antagonizing them?
