Yep. He's my #1.
He is still voted by musicians as the best rock musician of all time, not because of his speed, but because of his guitar knowledge, innovation and expressiveness. He showed what an electric guitar was capable of and changed music forever.

His versatility is mind blowing. He wasn't just Purple Haze and Foxy Lady. When listening to all his recordings, the variety is staggering, and his lyrics were unbelievably creative.

Most people who are not fans have probably never heard of the songs "Axis: Bold as Love", or "1983, A Merman I Should Turn to Be", or "Castles Made of Sand".

His compositions were free form blues. Effusive and elaborate. A force of nature.
Beck, Clapton and Page, more repetitive and formulaic. Stevie Ray Vaughn managed to combine them.
I hopped the fence in Bethel and stood maybe 30 feet away.

  @exitseven there's actually a difference. Country is rooted in Appalachian hillbilly music, Western is cowboy music. Country Western or country and Western is a mix of the two

Jimi Hendrix was an amazing innovator and a severely conflicted personality. Sadly people like him are capable of great creativity and great self destructive tendencies. Janis Joplin. John Belushi. Robin Williams. Prince. Michael Jackson.

No doubt, Hendrix had brilliant technique and he was an elite virtuoso, but some of his music seemed to be designed more to showcase his technical skills and less to be an artistic composition.
