    Nope. There have been some decent remakes for sure, but in large the remakes are just lazy people in Hollywood being unable to come up with any new ideas so they try to touch on nostalgia to bring in audiences.

    For that matter, it also extends to movie sequels that come out way later than the original, for example Top Gun, Bill and Ted Face the Music, and I am really hoping if they do end up making a sequel to The Goonies that they don't butcher it.

    I watched part of the old Aladdin and part of the new Aladdin staring Will Smith, both were excellent, but I liked the traditional one a little more.

    I did not watch the whole thing, I was on an airplane and the video machine glitched and stopped working while I was half way through the movie.

    No. At this point, I have next to no faith that most remakes will be loyal to the original story, which is a shame since I'd typically be super excited to see an updated version of a movie from the 1950s or 1960s that I like.

    That upcoming Spaceballs sequel though...

    Yes and no.

    Scarface (1932->1983), yes.

    Total Recall (1990->2012), no.

    Basically, it's a sign of lost creativity and cowardice.

  • Remakes are a mixed bag 🎬
    Some honor the original, update weak spots, and introduce classics to younger audiences. Others feel like lazy cash grabs, stripping away nuance, style, or cultural context.

    I like remakes when they reinterpret rather than copy, like “A Star Is Born” or “Little Women.” When they just modernize with CGI and big names, they usually lose the soul of the original.
