So for context 13 Reasons Why was a show that aired on Netflix for 4 seasons. It followed Liberty High School student Clay Jensen who struggles to deal with the death of Hannah Baker who died prior to the events of the first episode of the first season. Although the first season was mostly praised. The same could not be said for the seasons that followed. And I’m worried it might be because people expected the series to be kid friendly

“13 Reasons Why” was never meant to be kid friendly at all 😅. Season 1 was praised because it felt raw, focused, and emotionally powerful, even though it was very dark. The backlash later came more from how the show handled sensitive topics like suicide, self-harm, sexual assault, and violence, not because people wanted a lighter teen drama.
Critics, parents, and mental health professionals felt it became more exploitative, shocking for the sake of drama, and less responsible with its messages. The tonal shift and increasingly messy writing made it feel like it lost its purpose, which is why many turned on it, not because they expected something wholesome.
