Where I live in Canada it is Family Day. It's a National Holiday in certain provinces and areas of Canada 🇨🇦.

Family Day is a public Holiday in five provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and New Brunswick. It takes place on the third week of February on a Monday. Most places recognize it as a Holiday and most schools and businesses are closed; it's a time when families can spend time with oneanother and the emphasis on the importance of this is recognized and celebrated. In Manitoba the same day is known as Louis Riel Day.

There's more history to this day than what I have written here. Recently I've found myself wanting to know more about why we have certain holidays or why they are celebrated. Universally they're are probably holidays we do not even know about. Every different background and culture have their own traditions and things that they do. I grew up understanding why we celebrate Christmas and Easter, but so many of these Holidays have been commercialized and no longer reflect why we celebrate them or what are the orgins.

For example Valentine's Day which we just recently had has a meaning behind it and why we celebrate that day. The reason for why we celebrate it is not necessarily one many of us may have known. There's many different views and opinions on why we celebrate certain holidays, some good and some bad, but ultimately there is an orgin to where it all began and what it has been led to become since.

I'm thankful to have a holiday like Family Day, yet for years didn't give it much thought as I had not really been close to my biological family. I'm from British Columbia and there it became a Holiday in the same year that I met my Fiancèe. That was 8 years ago and we are still together and have a son who is now 4.

Similar to Thanksgiving, Family Day is a day that we can have anytime of year when we're able to find the time. Most of the time we don't need a holiday to be thankful, to celebrate love and romance or even to spend time with our families. It's great that we have these days though to remind of us of the importance of them.

Our family are the people we surround ourselves with, our friends, pets and all those we care about. No matter what day it is, Holiday or no holiday it'd nice to try and live as though those times are a part of more than just one day.
